HELP! Big bottomed baby with nothing to wear...

NocturnalNonsense · 11/01/2008 10:10

My ds is 9mo and is on the 95th centile. He isn't especially long but is wide with a big bottom and tummy (a bit like his mum at the moment). He also wears a re-useable nappy. He's popping out of dungarees for 12-18month olds already and all the trousers I've seen in the high street shops just look completely the wrong shape for him. Any recommendations of brands that are good for babies this shape? Any second hand stuff also very welcome!

try cut for cloth.

witchandchips · 11/01/2008 10:24

yes i had this problem, the issue is that clothes for older boys are just longer but not much wider.
try shorts for older boys or the other options is babygros with stuff over the top
once summer comes you can get away with cloth nappy + top
also you may find that you will not need to buy any more clothes for a good year or so as dc will just get longer

ebay has C4C brown cords and cream canvas atm.

Weenotions do fleece trousers and their dungarees aren't bad either.
Tinkertogs have some trous reduced, and Twinkle stock Australian Bright Bots clothes, including tracksuit bottoms at £7.50

Do you have Decathalon in Britain? I have a rather large baby and have found their stuff really good.

Indith · 11/01/2008 10:43

C4C trousers are beautiful. I have some tinkertogs ones too but...well......functional is the nicest way of describing them.

VanillaPumpkin · 11/01/2008 10:46

Osh Kosh dungarees are good and old M&S stuff if you can find any in charity shops. I am afraid I had dd's in cloth nappies so no suitable clothes for your ds.

Indith · 11/01/2008 10:49

Oh and I know C4C stuff is expensive but I have found that having C4C vests and trousers etc they last so much longer as they fit properly so it doesn't involve spending more money in the long run. (though my 12 month old is a wee bit small so that could be because he doesn't grow much). I don't buy expensive tops from there!

NocturnalNonsense · 11/01/2008 15:23

Thanks for the advise. Indith, I think you're right that it's worth spending a bit more on something that fits properly as things only seem to be fitting for a few weeks at the mo. I'll do some hunting round for C4C stuff on ebay/sale prices. Ta again.

I found Pumpkin Patch trousers would go over DS's cloth-clad bum. They also tend to have adjustable waists so can be tightened up for any days spend in disposables.

Not that many stores across the uk, but may be worth a try if there is one near you.
