have just been lookig on there for pressiea dn think dd1 wuld loe the fairy pj's. thing is she has ezcema and altho her skin in improving we are very cautious over pj's and stuff, (she mainly has mitten pj's). the ones from the white company are 100% cotton, but i want to know how soft they are and what the seams are like. is there anything that is likely to cause irratation? and what temp can the stuff be washed at as well.

Ds has two pairs of White Company pjs awaiting him as Christmas presents, so I've just pulled them out of the pressie cupboard and checked the washing instructions. They can be machine-washed at 40 degrees and can be tumble-dried at a low setting.

They're soft - not fleecy, cotton-woolly soft, but soft jersey cotton, and the seams ... well, they have about quarter of an inch of selvidge (do I mean selvidge?) which is over-stitched. V hard to judge re irritation, sorry. Seams at collar, waistband and cuffs less obtrusive.

Misdee, my DS has a pair of the Xmas jammies, they are very soft and gorgeous, I will have a look tomoro if you want and find out what the seams and the wash temp is on them, they're in his room at the mo at the bottom of the cupboard and he is a very light sleeper!!!!

this may seem silly, could u run the seams along your skin and see if they seem scratchy at all?

Ok, just tried it, and on more sensitive bits of skin like inside of the arm, and along base of throat. They don't seem at all scratchy to me, but then I have the hide of a rhinoceros.

More seriously, I would say they were less scratchy, than many T-shirts/sweatshirts, and certainly less scratchy than trouser seams. Does that help?

Primark have some gorgeous old-fashioned pyjamas for children in 100% very soft brushed cotton at £3 a go with cute patterns. Got some for ds with little wizards on and some with puppies on. They had pink ones as I recall. They say not to tumble dry, but I did, with no ill-effects.

Am complete White Co freak (to the extent that I forgive them for using 'it's' in their catalogue when they mean 'its'.)

The pyjamas are lovely and soft and hardwearing.
My ds has been wearing a few pairs from there for about 2 years now (They seem to be sort of growing with her. Very odd.) and they still look great despite the fact that they have had all sorts of crap (literally) on them.
Well worth the extra dosh.

Hi Misdee. DD has the fairy pyjamas, one pair which have the button down shirt and the lighter pair which has a plain fairy top. Both are very soft against the skin. They also do a nightdress which looks gorgeous. Would highly recommend.
Hate their bed linen though, has kept me awake from being too rough. Put the set of linen in the guest room!

personally I wouldnt buy the white company pjs again - the thick ones washed badly (trousers fine, but tops shrunk in length and seemed to grow in width) although they have gone through two children. The summerweight ones seemed better quality IMO.

can t have nighties as by law all nighties have to be treated to make them non flamable so we tend to avoid them for the chemical aspect. will check out boden as well. cheers.

what about the seams tho?

i am a woman obsessed. dd1 really wants somwe lovely pj's as she has had mitten pj's for years now. just they have to be non frilly, soft seams, 100% cotton etc etc. and able to be wwashed ideally at 60 degrees.

Have you tried The Children's Warehouse? Excellent quality - have checked the seams on the stripy ones and although they do not lie flat they do not seem scratchy (DD v. fussy re:seams and am sure she'd have complained). They do not advise tumble drying though. Will last forever.

how do you keep them soft if you dont tumble dry? dd1 also reacts to fabric conditioners, so we rtely on the drier a bit too much at times.

I recently got catalogue through the post (Heaven knows I got on to THEIR mailing list!) for excema products. But can't remember what it was called. When I say products, it was exactly what you are after, underwear, nightwear etc for children with "problem" skin. Try doing a search, and I will try to see if I kept it (which I probably did, much to dh's fury - he has an aversion to MO catalogues!)
