A detangler that works

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 18:29

My DD is 4 and I wash her hair twice a week. She is a monkey for having it brushed so it isn't done every day. I feel if her hair was tangle free we would stand a better chance. Any ideas? TIA.

we have a spray thing, in a yellow bottle can't remember what it's called

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 18:30

Is it from Asda? We have that but it doesn't work well for us. AMybe her hair is just too tangled.

pretty sure i got it from a supermarket, prob waitrose/sainsbo's

or maybe boots

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 18:37

Oh, not ours then as ours is Asda's range. Will keep looking. Thanks.

The Asda one's rubbish. It doesn't work. I need to find one that works too. Every morning dd moans about me brushing her hair and one day she went into school and put herself in "Mr Grumpy" (they have to put their name in the Mr Man who describes how they're feeling) and told the teacher I'd hurt her brushing her hair .

VanillaPumpkin · 10/01/2008 18:43

We have the Avon one which works quite well for us. The Johnsons one worked too but was more expensive I think. We hated the Asda one as you could taste it when you sprayed it and it was bitter. Yuk.
Dd's are 2 and 4 and we use it every day.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 18:52

I would prefer one I could buy in the high street tbh.

Well Johnsons then.

isaidno · 10/01/2008 19:02

Have you tried some conditioner diluted with water in a spray bottle? That is basically what detangler is.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 19:03

I have also tried a leave in conditioner.

In our house we have 2 things

  1. regular trim - amazing what it does
  2. we have found that dousing DTDs hair with Dove conditioner (at time of washing) is the best course of action. We literally use loads (about 1 bottle does 5-6 hairwashes ) but it works a treat

DTDs hair is wavey/curly in patches very thick as far as depth is concerned but each hair is very fine IYSWIM. It was an absolute nightmare until they had their hair washed at Grandma's once. She had happened to use Dove and I never use anything else now. I certainly never use a 2 in 1.

You may find Dove works for you. You may find something else is better for you.

But I do believe that you can do other things to help instead of/as well as detangling spray.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 19:12

I don't like the idea of a detangler tbh. I also prefer to use things with parabens and sodium laureth sulphate in but it is hard to find natural products that suit our needs.

isaidno · 10/01/2008 20:45

what about this?

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2008 20:46

oh I had a natural one, hold on

inamuckingfuddle · 10/01/2008 20:47

I use the johnsons pink one on DTs works wonders, will try to link

Fubsy · 10/01/2008 20:48

Modern Organic Products (MOP) Pear Detangler - lovely smell, relatively natural, lasts for ages. (Just as well as is pricey - £10)

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2008 20:51

it was called logona conditioning apray

am not finding it on internet so maybe have changed name, but it was just natural oils etc and was pretty good

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2008 20:52

spray

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 20:53

Will look tmw, thank you.

OP posts:
Fubsy · 10/01/2008 20:53

Oh, Logona stuff is lovely, didnt know they did a detangler!

PandaG · 10/01/2008 20:54

as recommended om here I use timotei shampoo and conditioner for mid to long hair (peach/pink bottle) on DD's hair - works a treat - do a loose plait a bedtime, so less likely to be tangly in the morning too

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/01/2008 20:55

I plait her hair if it has been washed but it really needs a good brush. She just doesn't like me doing it.

OP posts:
bundle · 15/01/2008 12:22

that's interesting fisby, I had a look and ours is L'Oreal - but pear-scented! do you think they just made up a big vat & labelled them differently?

CountessDracula · 15/01/2008 12:23

I second the MOP one
DD has impossible hair and this is the only thing that works
