Feedback needed from owners of Petit Star Zia and Bruin Presto pushchairs PLEASE!!!

Hi. Need to buy another pushchair for school run for youngest as current one is too wide and bulky to go through school doors. Also needs to fold quite small as it will be kept in the house (small space).
Have been looking at the Bruin one in Toys R Us but then found some not so good feedback on mumsnet re going up and down kerbs.
The school is 5 mins down the road but too far for dd to walk (and too time consuming!). It is a flat and level walk, but I do cross some roads for which I have to go up and down kerbs.
Has anyone got one of these pushchairs who can give me feedback to their good and bad points?
Was also looking at a Zapp as it's not essential that it reclines as dd will only be in it to walk to school and back and she doesn't sleep at that time.
Thanks in advance!

Forgot to say, please don't suggest I buy a Maclaren or other similar type of this pram. I already have one and the back wheels are too close together and I end up kicking them and nearly tripping myself up!

I have the petit star zia and really like it - have not had any probs with it. It folds up small is fairly lightweight and does recline unlike the zapp. DD (who is almost 2) is very comfortable in it. Brakes are so much better than a maclaren. I don't have problems with kerbs either. Only possible negative for you would be that it does seem to be quite wide - but thats only in comparison to my old pushchair (chicco trio) so if you are buying it to fit through a door I would check width. hth

Going against the grain cos most people seem to love it, but I found the Zia pretty impossible to push one-handed (need to hold DD's hand) even on smooth surfaces, so sold it and got a Zapp

Anyone else?

I have the Zia for 5 months now, i used to have the quinny zapp but there was too many problems with it. I love the zia and never had a problem with it. No problems going up and down kerbs, and it actually go smoothly on much rougher terrain (tried and tested). As it reclines you will find that you will probably want to use it when shopping as well. It is really compact and stands upright, doesnt take space at all (i live in a small flat so i know about space). You will probably not be able to push it one handed though. Other than this it is excellent!

Ah - I got round the one handed thing on the zia by using the bar in the middle - can't do it for long though - just move it out the way really... Kiddicare do a good price on them..

My DS is 17 months and I'm wanting a light weight buggy. How long would the Zia still be useful? He is average sized for his age.

cant do a link but this is a good website thats reviewed most buggies including the zia.

Hi,I,ve just bought the bruin zia (which is also made by petite star) at toys r us, and find it better than the zia's you can buy else where as it has adjustable handles, which seems to be a big problem with alot of zia users if your over 5ft 4. It also seems to be alot more stable as i haven't had any problems with tipping, and at 129.99 including cosytoes it's a real bargain, plus it looks identical, only difference being it has bruin zia written on the frame.

bracingair · 26/01/2010 20:05

saw zia side by side with quinny zapp and the quinny looked a lot more robust to me

surely a zia is a zia? are you saying only the ones sold in toys r us have adjustable handles?
i am just about to buy one

MrsAlwaysRight · 11/04/2010 21:27

Zia probably not great if you are quite tall as the handles are fairly low. Other negative is the seat doesn't go that upright which is fine when they are v small but not so good when they want to be able to sit upright and see whats going on as I found DD always slipped down. You can get round this by pully strap through further than its designed to go and tying it in place but then very difficult to untie and lower back when they fall asleep!

Other than that I've been pleased with mine, lightweight and folds up to a fairly small size. HTH.

Hi, I have a Bruin Zia and found it to be really lightweight and easy to use when I first bought this for my daughter at 6 months. Now that my daughter is 14 months I have started to have problems. When she was strapped into the buggy she lent forward and the whole buggy toppled over! The first time this happened at my mother-in-law's house when she went to pick up her bag. My daughter banged her head on the floor and ended up with a small bruise (thankfully she was not outside on the pavement). The second time she was with Dad and fortunately he was quick enought to catch the buggy.
Has anyone else had this problem? My daughter is not particular big for her age. I took it back to Toys R Us but they said that it was ok and I should expect it to be less sturdy because if has 3 wheels!

Phoenix · 20/07/2010 21:28

I read alot of bad reports about the Zia's tipping up very easily so was put off and bought a Zapp. I'd had a Zapp before for ds1 so knew they were good and i just love it

trueell · 20/07/2010 21:56

Thank you - it is reassuring to hear that it is not just me.
If anyone else has heard of similar experiences with this buggy, I would really like to hear them.
I will take a look at the Zapp, as I don't want to put my daughter in the zia now.
