I need a cheap stage 2(?) carseat for dd2 and a seat for dd1

I shall be collecting my 1st car soon.

We already have car seats in dp's car which consist of a britax(renaissance?)which was dd1's which is now dd2's and dd2 is in a cheap booster seat.

I haven't much of a budget but can't be swapping the car seats over from car to car all the time.

dd1 is 6 and tall like 7-8 year old and weighs around 3 and a half stone ish.
dd2 is 2 next week ,tall like 3 year old and very heavy ,off the scale according to hv
can't remember exactly how much though.

Sorry am clueless as well as pennyless.

Also with regard to dd2 she will never keep her arms in the straps so permanently sits with arms out .We have tried everything but nothing stops her.

the eclipse is p*ss easy to fit. just thread, the seat belt through, hook it through a little red clip and pull it as tight as possible (i sometimes get dd1 or 2 to perch in the seat whilst i fit it to get it really tight)

Misdee · 10/01/2008 00:05

what seat was it PFNM?

Beauregard · 10/01/2008 00:06

this was the one for dd1hope it works

dd2 was eclipse ,freeway and renaissance
most of the ones it spits out are discontinued though.

trio has been rebranded under fisherprice seats ithink, but tbh they arent rated highly, but if its the only seat that fits then it may be your optiion.

SlightlyMadShrek · 10/01/2008 00:09

Trio gets poor ratings from Which IIRC (we had one for DTDs and stopped using it with 5 point harness as it was crap, better with as a 3 point highack though)

Its the pulling it tight enough every time that concerns me...

I saw a lot of carseats on a stall at our local market which were reasonably priced, the bloke said he would refund if they didn't fit.
I am considering.
One of them was a fisher price one i think.

Beauregard · 11/01/2008 22:28

oh i dunno

I can't afford mothercare or Halfords prices to have 'fitted' car seats.

We've had three Britax: one Rock-a-tot and two Club Class (one for each car). All bought from eBay for very little money. Of course the manufacturers say you shouldn't buy second hand, but they would say that, wouldn't they...?

Luckily, though, that advice means that good secondhand car seats are dirt cheap. Of course you have to give them a thorough inspection for damage: cracks, corrosion, frayed straps and so on.

The best reaction came from my sister-in-law: "You mustn't use a second hand car seat, it's unsafe. I'll give you our old one."

Misdee · 12/01/2008 00:00

not all damage to a car seat is visable though Uber.

our crash as i said furhter down was pretty bad. the car seats didnt have a mark on them. i woldnt sell them.

i would use a car seat second hand from someone i know and trust.
