planning a bedroom for 2 girls........

ages 2 and 4. thing is the room is only 8ft by 9ft. I was thinking about bunkbeds but would have to wait till dd2 is older, as at the age of 2 she is still trying to leap off things. dd1 has seen some gorgeous fairy wallpaper she likes, but dd2 is still at the peeling wall paper off stage. their room is so small. atm they have 2 singles beds in there, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and their dollshouse. We do have a huge cupboard in the hallway, which if we manage to clear out i could convert to a wardrobe, but the room would still be tiny.

Can anyone think of any products etc that would make their room seem larger and give them space to play.

The babies bedroom is even smaller

Have a look at IKEA - they're so good for things like storage and maximising small rooms (and they're cheap ).

Have you thought of maybe getting them a double bed - takes up less space than 2 singles - 1 lot of washting etc maybe one with 4 drawers underneath ??

misdee · 21/11/2004 16:38

i have the ikea book, but really dont know what to do.

if the walls were solid and not silly plasterboard then i would think about wall cupboards off the floor, but dont know if the walls will take it lol.

had a double bed in there when we moved in, but it was such a squash. again nowhere to play.

I think possibly bunk beds is the answer, lighter colours on the walls, rather than pattern wallpaper would make the room appear larger, (you could get a pretty border for dd1 on the top bunk) also having a blind instead of curtains helps as you can then see into the window. Not much help, but these are little tricks we have used to make our little room not look so small.

we have blinds, and atm the walls are just pink. if i did do the wallpaper dd1 wants then it would only be one wall as it think it was £12 a roll or something like that.
what age do u think dd2 would have to be before we got the bunkbeds?

My Dd2 was 2.5 when she went into the bottom bunk. Dd1 was 5.5 in the top one.

misdee · 21/11/2004 16:55

yes but dd2 is a climber and leaper. she scares me!!

How old is she now ???

My Dd2 is also a climber but honestly she was fine. They would both get downj from the top bunk anyway other than by the ladders but i soon got used to that and neither of them ever fell off.

I would get the metal bunk beds rather than the wooden ones cos the metal ones look smaller even if they aren't.

don't put up wallpaper - use one colour or maybe 2 on the walls instead and jazz it up with curtains and the bedding. Could get a bit busy with wallpaper and everything else.

You can get large fairy stickers for the walls from suppliers such as GLTC which may save some costs.

dd2 is just 2yrs old. i dont think i;d be able to afford the bed till she is closer to 3 anyway, but what can i do in the meantime? just want them to have a fabulous room. it could take me a year to do it lol.

all i did when we moved in was to paint it pink and put the blinds up. its quite boring.
