Sorry to hijack but Im curently looking to get 2 new car seats(same kind). Currently have Britax Eclipse Si (our car) and Mamas and Papas Pro tec(grandparents car) for dd1 whos a very small almost 4 year old (weighs approx 25lb). DD2 is almost 11 months and weighs almost 20lb so will shortly be needing a new car seat(or 2). Was thinking probably best to put dd2 in the current car seats we have and but the next stage car seat for dd1 - but as she is so slight built/weight and isnt heavy enough for stage 2 yet was wondering about the ones that cover from 9 months to 11 years? What is the recommended best ones for stage 1,2 and 3? Or are they not recommended?

Sorry for hijack and long post. Just thought pretty pointless to start another car seat thread.

the only one really is the britax 1-2-3, none of them are great, but that is the best of them. I would be tempted to go and have a look at some seats in a large store or two as well though, as I think they do vary in what build of child they suit.

I had a britax eclipse si, did you realise they perform badly in the which tests? made me reconsider using it for ds2, even though I'd kept it from ds1.

Just seen on your link to previous thread that they dont perform too great - really didnt want to read that as i really cannot afford to buy another car seat on top of the 2 I already have to buy - they are sooo god damn expensive!!

the hi-liner is good, and very light for switching into grandparents car etc.

I know, it is ridiculous the amount they cost. Halfords did have an offer on if you bought 2 seats when I bought ours before christmas, and mothercare had a voucher in the magazine they sell for £1 in store, that saved me moeny off the seat I bought there.

I pondered for quite a while what to do about the new seats, but then decided I would never forgive myself for not spending the extra if the worst did happen.

thankfully, when I flipped the car over 2 weeks ago neither of my children were with me so I didn't test it, but it really made me realise how important it is.

Poor you Pillock - I assume you are OK?

PillockOfTheCommunity · 05/01/2008 23:42

I'm fine, quite remarkable really, but we're all ok and I got a new car today (my lovely gran bought it for me until Insurance money comes through), I couldn't ask for more

I think the Jane Indy (?) stage 2/3 isofix seat is narrower, may not be cheaper though unfortunately. Would be interested if anyone has 2 of these in the back - can you then fit a booster cushion easily in the middle, just for the occasional school pick ups, - if so what kind of car do you have?

Thanks.
