Hi, dd will be nearly a year at christmas and my family are very considerately asking what she needs. My mind is a blank. Clothes would be good but can you think of any useful things/ good toys for the next year?

Thanks

Wooden puzzles, books, anything from the Happy land set from ELC my dd was mad about this from about 14m and used to take a little person everywhere, soft dollies. little tea set, building bricks {can't think of the name) My ds has just turned one and is mad about cars and phones but he did have a fantastic music set for his birthday. It's in a drum lots of animals as instruments. Bee bop band from Parents. Hope this helps.

One of DS's best ever presents has been the ELC "Travel Scribbler" (around £10). It's one of those drawing board things which wipes clean when you slide a button. He was given it for his first birthday and, at three, still uses it every day. It's been on flights around the world with us and goes on long car trips as he will play with it for ages. DD (18 months) is getting one for Christmas as I can't bear the fights over it any longer! Also, if your DD doesn't already have a baby stroller, then I'd thoroughly recommend that. Also provides lengthy entertainment and they're cheap at around £5 at ELC or Argos. DD, since walking, has spent ages wheeling it around taking various toys (and often her big brother) for a ride!

We didn't get ds anything when he was nearly one last Xmas. He was given a push along truck, toddle trike and a big plastic truck. All good things which he has grown into over the year. If you can find one and have the space, a sandpit is a good idea too (otherwise a winter baby never gets garden toys!)

dd is now 21 months so this is a recap of her favourite toys from the past year:
Toy suitcases (those cardboard ones from Letterbox)
In fact, any kind of bag or bucket to fill and carry around
Toy kitchen
Baby dolls (she was given one for her 1st birthday - I thought it was too early but she adores it. One of her first words was 'babee')
She also has a moses basket and wicker pram for baby - she thinks these are great and loves tucking her baby in and singing (it's so sweet!)
Fisher Price Little People - especially the house and farm.
Wellington boots - she spends AGES putting them on and off
Very different from my ds - at this age he preferred books (especially flap books) and ride on toys.
Both of them loved a Little Tikes toddler sized slide which we keep in the garden. She's been fine with it from the age of 15 months or so.

We have got DD blocks, and a Fimbo cuddly toy that wiggles its nose and a mat she walks on that makes some noise (from ELC).

For her birthday recently we got her a toy mobile phone and a baby doll which she adores.
