Has anyone got an Eee? It's a very light and portable and cheap laptop, meant for children but I am wondering about mumsnetting on the train

It's only £219! Look, it's here I saw a bloke on a tube with one today and it really is tiny and light. and CHEAP. Any one got one? Supposed to be for children apparently but I'm not proud.

The write up doesn't say its for children, from what i've seen i assume its lightweight and compact making it great for travelling.

I am on mine as we speak! Lovely suprise xmas present from dh, wouldnt say they were aimed for children though

ooh it looks lovely

According to dh (who knows about such things!) it's meant to be linux - based. Had a linux computer for a year (it doesn't need a huge memory to run). Was great for mumsnetting and a small amount of office stuff, but ultimately I clogged up the memory and it got very slow. I don't know if the same would happen on this - or even if my wittering is relevant to you mind. I suppose it depends if there's anything else you'd like to do on it.

Dh got me mine because he says it is simple to use because the operating system is really pared down. The biggest problem I have had with it is just getting used to the smaller keyboard but it really is very good and fits in my handbag - result!

Thanks all of you. I only want it for mumsnet and email while on the train. I might go and have a look at one this weekend. Thanks!

it looks pretty cool..i think I would want one

It comes with a special version of Xandros Linux, but also has drivers for Windows XP (which you have to supply) included. There is a version intended for children, with less RAM and storage (256MB/2GB): RM sell it as the Classmate. Not much saving, though, and 512MB + 4GB is not overgenerous as it is.

I think they are brilliant and I'll be buying one next time I'm in London, if the rush to get 'em has died down. Micro Anvika on Tottenham Court Road seems to be the place to go for them.

I'm on one now! it's fab! It is tiny and lightweight about the size of a hardback book. I only got it for MN, emails and general surfing the net. It does have an equivalent 'office' type applicattion.

I love it, i have it in black but there are some lovely colours coming out soon. I'm sure mine was under £200 (DH paid!).

Highly highly recommend it. We also have a normal laptop at home which can run loads of applications so i tend to use the eepc upstairs in bed.

not much battery life though is there? I find mine runs down quite quickly - has to be charged daily
