Are Tempur pillows worth the £?

DH is waking with a bad neck a lot of mornings and I'm sure its his pillow so thinking of buying him a Tempur pillow but they are £60+ so thought I would ask around first!

TIA

They are okay but actually no better than the squishy bean bag pillows you get in the shopping centre.

Are you sure your mattress is still up to the job of supporting you both though? Though I know you are both svelte and light of foot these days

Elizabetth · 03/01/2008 21:06

I love mine. Have even thought of taking it with me on holiday.

PussinJimmyChoos · 03/01/2008 22:47

The matress is only four years old and post DS it is not seeing much action......

I adore mine.
Solved my sore neck problems.

Have had it for yrs now and think it needs replacing.

I bought a so called memory foam one from ikea and it was too hard in comparison to the tempur one.

I am looking for a cheaper alternative but tbh I will probably by another one as this one has lasted me for about 8 yrs so not expensive really.

foofi · 03/01/2008 22:55

I bought some Tempur pillows but didn't like them as they were too thick.

FlorenceFarkingNightingale · 03/01/2008 22:55

I adore mine, but don't get the one that's just a normal pillow shape - get the curvy one that has much more neck support.

PussinJimmyChoos · 03/01/2008 22:56

Ahh that was my next question whether to get the curvy one or the classic one....hmm...am puzzled as to how that can be comfy to be honest...what about turning over etc?

Looking at the pictures I think it's the original that we have. Are you concerned about turning the pillow or yourself?! You don't turn the pillows at all.

PussinJimmyChoos · 03/01/2008 22:59

Its not for me, its a surprise for DH as he always seems to wake up with a bad neck. I meant turning over as in bodily turning over in the night etc...

Not a problem at all. It's the mattress that can take a bit of getting used to in terms of turning over, rather than the pillows.

Have you been to a shop and tried lying on them yourself so that you can see what they are like?

puffling · 03/01/2008 23:03

I can't do without mine. You need the one that curves into your neck.It took me a few nights to get used to, now it feels totally normal.I don't know if cheaper ones are as good.

brimfull · 03/01/2008 23:03

They are fine for anyway you sleep.
I have the curved one for neck support.
I change it sometimes during the night from top to bottom iykwim, don't turn it over.

amazonianwoman · 03/01/2008 23:06

I got a Boots one years ago (curvy one, not normal shaped) - from their healthy living range, or whatever it was called. About £30-40 vs Tempur £70ish. It's still as supportive now as it was c. 6yrs ago

I love it, I take it to my parents, camping, everywhere. I used to have a very sore neck - no more

amazonianwoman · 03/01/2008 23:07

Hmm, looked on the Boots website, they don't seem to do it anymore

ipodtherforipoor · 03/01/2008 23:16

I got a £15 memory foam pillow in Matalan - have had only good sleeps on one pillow since before christmas - and no more bad necks!

purpleduck · 03/01/2008 23:20

I got one from The Range, and it is crap. Avoid!

PussinJimmyChoos · 03/01/2008 23:31

The Range - you don't live near Plymouth by any chance?

Amazonian - thanks loads for checking for me. Guess it will have to be the expensive one....do I love him enough???

amazonianwoman · 03/01/2008 23:58

Do it, they are so much more supportive than feather/hollowfibre pillows

PussinJimmyChoos · 03/01/2008 23:59

Oooh maybe he'll have such a good night's sleep he will bound out of bed at weekends and do all the early shifts with DS???!!!

Doesn't seem to work for me, but you never know...

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 04/01/2008 12:20

I used to get a bad neck ad got a cheap pillow from Argos - but one that said it was an oesteopath type pillow thats good for necks and keeps you aligned, etc. Think it was £12 and I've been fine since.

PicknMix · 06/01/2008 19:02

I suffered from constant headaches - on the advise of my [physiotherapist] mum I bought a Tempur pillow (the curvy one) and et voila, headaches have stopped!!

PS Bought mine from TK Maxx for just £29.99 - this was over 3 months ago and a friend went into a different TK Maxx just 2 weeks ago and they still had some.....
