Can someone help me find an Armsreach co-sleeper (or similar) for less than £199?!!

I can only find new ones (don't seem to be any on e-bay) for £199 which I can't justify for a few months use. We have a perfectly good cot (from ds) so just want something to enable us to co-sleep that won't take up too much room in a not very big bedroom.

TIA to anyone that can help!!

Or would someone like to sell me one?

Is that a sort of travel cot thingy that attaches to the bed? Not wooden?

inSanityClaus · 03/01/2008 18:29

Where do you live?

beansprout · 03/01/2008 18:31

That's a good description!

I'm in London.

I think I've got one in the attic, bought in the States when ds was a babe (now 6). I will get DH to dis-inter it; we are in Esher if you want to borrow.

beansprout · 03/01/2008 18:40

I would really appreciate that!

Shall I CAT you?

Do you need the full size one or is the mini one ok? Mini one does up to six months no problem.

beansprout · 03/01/2008 18:45

The mini one would be perfect as we have a cot for when baby moves out of our room and something that didn't take up too much space in the meantime would be fab.

The one we have is baby rather than toddler size, like a travel cot. It isn't height adjustable - it conformed to a normal bed height, and more or less matched our pine bed. There is a short 'lip' however between the cot and the main bed - about 2" in height. It is six years old so I don't know if the newer models are more flexible. I dimly remember it could be used as a travel cot as well, by lowering the sleeping platform.

Anyway, it is available if you want it (won't be offended if you don't). I don't 'cat' (?), but e-mail is [email protected].

Isn't Mumsnet great?

beansprout · 04/01/2008 17:57

I have sent you an e-mail. Many thanks.

I see you are sorted, beansprout, but just wanted to let you know that the co-sleepers are used for a lot longer than a few months. My sister has had them in the states and I have had one for my first boy and now my second is still in his past his first birthday. We love them and are so glad they are now in the UK. . .I can easily get sheets now!!!

If you still need one, let me know because I know of someone who has a nearly new one and is probably wanting to sell. It's a UK version, which has safety stuff the States ones don't, and is the Universal, which adjusts to different bed heights. So, if you do want one and the one InSanityClaus doesn't work for you, let me know and I can ut you in touch with my friend.

I am hoping to get a bedside cot as well, and hadn't heard of this one! I have been looking at the mamas & papas close and cosy, and the bednest. Have you heard any chat about these ones? The really annoying thing is you can't get to see any of them - grrr!

ChelleKelley · 05/01/2008 23:19

Hi Ava,

The Bednest has a website, which is just www.bednest.co.uk, so you could see it there. I don't know where you could see the close and cosy. The Arm's Reach Co-sleeper can be seen on several websites, you can google it or go to the main company at www.armsreach.co.uk. I know they are in a few stores, too. . .one is in London somewhere and another is in Peterborough, but I don't know which other stores.

When I have spoken with people about the bednest and the co-sleeper, what usually comes up is the vast difference in price (the bednest is much more expensive), the fact that the bednest is only useful until about six months, but the co-sleeper can be used for up to two years, and the fact that the bednest doesn't do all the different conversions that the co-sleeper does.

I would be interested in hearing how the close and cosy weighs in to the case, though. I don't know anyone who has one, so I am curious to know about it.

I hope that is helpful!

Congratulations on your baby!

Chelle

My two cents: I don't like the close and cosy at all. Expensive and worried me about the baby crawling or rolling out. I also didn't like the size. It was so big that I couldn't get out of bed without scooching down to the end of the bed (which was painful for the first month or so) and took up too much room in my bedroom. It was impossible to get the baby in and out easily, too, without trying to climb onto the bed. Finally had to give up. Next baby, due in March, we are going to look into something else as I really want to co-sleep and breastfeed. Thanks for the links to the Bednest and Arms Reach Co-Sleeper Bassinet, Chelle!!! I am glad there are other options out there!!!

Thanks for the feedback on close and cosy stephanie! I thought bigger would be better as it would last longer, but there are obvious drawbacks as well! Ho Hum..... I will look into the arms reach though - cheers Chelle!
Have you had any joy Beansprout? When is your baby due? I've got till start of march to get sorted - argh!

ChelleKelley · 09/01/2008 20:46

Hi Ava,

Just a footnote-the co-sleeper is big enough for a two year old, even a very tall one like mine was/is going to be, so anything bigger than that is pretty unnecessary IMHO. I used it as long as my first was a baby/toddler and will do the same with my one year old, so I think they last as long as any other bed would, with more flexibility. But that is MHO!!

I hadn't thought about Stephanie's point, though. . .I had a ROUGH birth with James and I could not have 'scooched' down anywhere after that fiasco. The co-sleeper is certainly long enough for a toddler, but when I put it up even with the head of my bed, I had room to swing my legs over the bed easily, which was a Godsend. Big babies who are facing the wrong way are NOT fun to birth!! OUCH!!

Hope that helps!

Chelle
