Dull, dull, dull...limescale removal help!

Hi thinking of selling house (yup, great timing, eh?) and, despite being lazy slut at heart, want to give it good scrub up. Folding shower screen (acrylic I think) is positively milky with limescale. Can anyone recommend a really effective product/technique for removing it? Bearing in mind I'm very, very lazy?

YES! This I know. There's this stuff called "Viakal" for large or vertical surfaces that works well. And if that doesn't work, you can mix your own strong solution from the powdered stuff.

I'm a housecleaning slut and messy to boot, but I love descaling things.

Vinegar mixed half and half with water is good for shifting limescale.

Vinegar does it very well on drinking glasses. Would take a lot of bottles though!Wet it up well and leave it for a while perhaps. Limelite is effective but you would have to be careful about drips - don't want it taking colour out of floor tiles. Lemon juice is supposed to be good, too.

Isn't Cillit Bang meant to be good with limescale?

JJ · 18/11/2004 16:30

Does 'housecleaning slut' mean really bad at it? That's what I meant, at any rate. I'm overthinking this...

white vinegar, put it in a sprayer (cheap to buy in garden shop). Spray it on and leave to soak for a few minutes. Also you can soak cloths in it and leave them on problem areas. Then rinse.

Limelite power gel - get it from supermarket. Specially formulated to cling to vertical surfaces. Leave it on for 10 mins and rinse off.

hewlettsdaughter · 18/11/2004 17:20

try rubbing a cut lemon on it - vinegar works too but the smell is less appealing!

According to Aggie, soak kitchen towel in white vinegar, 'stick' it to the glass and leave for 2 hrs then wipe off. Haven't tried it but will when mine needs it!

Poo2 · 18/11/2004 19:01

Try a mix of sodium bicarb, white vinegar and lemon jucie.

Twiglett · 18/11/2004 19:03

You will of course have to get Mr Aloha to do it because chemicals like that are not good for a pregnant woman to inhale

misdee · 18/11/2004 19:06

sellling up and having a baby? you must be mad to consiider trying to organise the 2

try viakal.

whizzz · 18/11/2004 19:09

Do watch if you end up using lots of different cleaners as they could react together with nasty consequences!

aloha · 18/11/2004 19:16

Thanks! So I have two options it seems, the healthy one of vinegar, which I can do, in frightening Kim and Aggie stylee....or do I harness the weapons of mass destruction that are Viakal or Limelight...?

I think someone just posted about Cillit Bang for the sheer joy of seeing those two words again
Need lots of money if moving is to be remotely possible hence the cleaning. So far just putting house on market to see what happens though we have a seen a house we really, really like (but might well not be able to afford ). Amazed by how far house prices have fallen though - at least 10%.
