Just started weaning bean so I'm thinking of buying a high chair soon. I Would quite like a tripp trapp chair but I'm not sure if it's worth it? Any other recommendations?

hi beansmum. i wanted a tripp trapp but it was too dear so i bought one from mothercare that was almost identical, their own make. i really like it, but had to buy a soft padded seat to go inside it cos dd kept banging her head off the wood. so that pushed the price up. dd is now 2 and she still uses it, with the adjustments etc. how the weaning going? [grin}

yay!

With DD I bought a £20 booster seat for the dining chair and she was fine with this. However, with ds he was rocking it rather dangerously so had to splash out for a blue basic model from John Lewis. Ordered it on line and arrived within a few days. PLeased with the stability of it. Coast £30

However, if this is your first you may want to get a more fancy one. I have found both perfectly fine - apart from ds doing the rocking!!!

beansmum - have just been through this ourselves. We really couldn't afford it but we wnet to look at a Tripp Trapp anyway at Backinaction. She appeares so comfortable in it that we bought it.
It's fab, I love it and so does dd!!

MilkyWay · 18/11/2004 12:25

Started off with the First Years Booster seat and now dd is 2 have just bought a Tripp Trapp which is fab and will last her for years as a chair.

Highly recommend it.

we bought a £60 Mamas and pappas high chair for DS1, used it for DD, finally with DS2 admitted to DH how much I hated it - lots of nooks and crannies so it was so hard to clean; "folded up" but actually opened up again and fell out on you when you opened the cupboard door; height-adjustable ?? you don't need that, I discovered. Tray came off but you still couldn't put it at the table because of the big bar at the front etc etc.
He agreed (hurrah!) so went out and spent £15 on an Ikea one, so easy to clean, draws right up to the table, so it didn't fold up, you need it every day anyway.

Watch out this could turn out to be a "We love tripp Trapps" thread alot of them do

bunnyrabbit · 18/11/2004 12:36

Same as Milkyway, but DS is 14months

mine is a cheep and cheerful little high chair that cost me £32 and is great. I shopped around and the most expensive i found was over £100. I completely and utterly refuse to spend that amount of money on a high chair so went for mine. It cleans up great, (even tho its a plastic backed fabric seat) its functional and is comfortable. Ive been using it for over a year and it still looks great. I do have to "MUCK OUT" once a week with the hoover attachment and give it a good soapy wash, but its dry in an hour and ready to go. My advice,go cheep and cheerful x

I really must learn to make decisions without the help of MN! Is it possible?

janeybops - is the blue plastic seat like a bumbo seat? I have one of them but bean can escape from it quite easily.

I suppose I should go for a cheaper option, I really want a tripp trapp though. I will have a look at the mothercare one. Does it come in blue though? it has to coordinate with the kitchen aid mixer I'm going to buy myself for xmas!

we had this sort of one first for dd kiddicare bt if was a nightmare to clean and soon went moldy n smelly.

we had brought a booster like this and it is a nightmare as dd isn't very stable in it.

so we've ordered one of these tripp trapp cheaper version although dd is 2 1/2 she still needs something and this seemed the best option as it does a child up to 10yrs old plus anymore we have as well as being ewasily cleaned

fairydust · 18/11/2004 15:53

Also kiddicare are excellent with delviery etc never had any trouble with them

DaddyCool · 18/11/2004 16:22

Really cheap IKEA thing. Works great, nice and compact.

Catbert · 18/11/2004 16:43

I adore my tripp trapp!

Couldn't afford one for DD2, so bought a cheapy one and I hate it. She always does that archy back thing, and ends up almost lying down in it. Compromise was that DD1 wasted to sit is her sisters new chair, so she does now - and DD2 now happily in the tripp trapp!

I can't recommend them enough! Although the cheaper version from Kiddicare looks good!

beansmum · 18/11/2004 16:46

I quite like the idea that bean will be at the table with me, not have his own tray, so I'm seriously leaning towards the tripp trapp, but will have to have a look at my budget again. I extended my overdraft today to pay for nursery so it might have to be cheapo ikea one.

just had a look on ikea website. They have a highchair for £11!

hunny · 18/11/2004 16:49

We've got Tripp Trapps for both of ours - I justify the cost by convincing myself we will never have to buy either of them a chair ever again(!). We live in Germany and they're a bit cheaper here possibly. I would suggest you look at ebay but they seem to be a bit scarce there so quite expensive - worth keeping an eye out though - you might get lucky.

honeybunny · 18/11/2004 18:33

Just a thought for you tripptrapp users, my ds1 at 3.5 flatly refused to sit in a "baby seat" for his food, only a real chair will do. Now ds2 at 2.5 has said much the same and screams his head off if I threaten him with his handy sit if he's misbehaving a mealtimes. Been to 2 friends houses with tripptrapps and when offered both mine said no to what they considered was a baby chair.
Any high chair costing 3figures is a rip off in my opinion. I used a first years reclining booster seat followed on by a handy sit, the combined cost of both coming in at well below £100. Thats for 2 kiddies and I'll be doing the same for no3.

Hulababy · 18/11/2004 19:13

We have a tripp trapp for DD (age 2.5yo) which she loves. Have to say that she doesn't see it as a baby chair at all - more her special chair. Possibly because we use it not just for eating - but at the computer desk and for arts/craft stuff, etc.

Our friend's DS won't go near his highchair, but loves to use our Tripp Trapp.
