I hate the feckers too

have ended up just buying a few cheapos at a time, then after a few months one will break, so I get out the next one etc

gah

DrNortherner · 28/12/2007 17:02

That's whay I've been doing, buty I've ran out of cheapies and just wrestled with a tin of chopped toms for 10 minutes

There must be another way surely?

get one of these

DrNortherner · 28/12/2007 17:05

Iota that looks suspiciously like one I have done battle with already.

Is it me? Do I need tin opening lessons?

I'm left handed and don't get on with tin openers at all. Always buy cans with ring pulls is my motto

Iota · 28/12/2007 17:19

it must be you DrN

mine has lasted for ages

or maybe I hardly ever use tins as I ALWAYS cook from scratch

or maybe not

smurfgirl · 28/12/2007 17:23

This one is fab.

i have the one iota linked to. i've had it 10years and its fine still.

beautifulgirls · 30/12/2007 22:38

ours was fine until we got a dishwasher....I think they wreck the turning mechanisms. We only hand wash ours now. If you have dishwashed them give it a try not to!?

ninewurlysdancing · 30/12/2007 22:41

get an electric one here. i cant use can openers, can arthritus in my hands, and find this so much easier to use.

tdm · 02/01/2008 12:48

Try the one from ikea - cheap and works wonderfully easily. Although my husband swears it's a deathtrap because it slices the top off the can, leaving a sharp edge.

BrownSuga · 02/01/2008 13:00

you want one even cheaper than that. no plastic bits (i can't use those, so must be the opener). just a plain metal one, i think i got one at asda. works a charm, no more effing when trying to open cans now.

SHHHHappynewyear · 02/01/2008 16:01

dh's nan has the culinare one as above and loves it. She also has arthritus. around £17 iir.

SatsumaMoon · 02/01/2008 16:09

Also recommend electric openers - I've gone through loads of the manual ones over the years, when the last one gave up the ghost I found an old electric one at the back of the cupboard - thought I would just use it until I bought a new manual one but it is sooo much easier to use (maybe it's my advancing years ) that I've kept using it.....

in the sale in woolworths for £5 rather than £10 at the moment. (saw them today)

the ones at my dads are now at least 15 years old and still work perfectly
