I want the sort of door thats all wood on the botton half and then 2 glazed panels in the top. But I want the glass to be different coloured little squares. Any ideas? Thanks.

I don't know about buying the door complete with glass panels, but you can get people to put pretty coloured glass panels in your existing door (or a normal door that you've bought. My friend had quite a few done.

I looked into it last year but the one quote I got was pretty pricey - might have been because it was a boutiquey shop in a posh part of town. The woman would have been able to design something to my colours and specifications though.

DO you mean the sort of traditional Victorian doors with orange and blue squares in them? I think I've seen them in reclamation yards before.

Why not Cod - I have an old Victorian house and think it would look nice. I need a door with some sort of glass in as hall is dark and we need some light coming in.

Yes - Mts Carrot, one of those traditional type doors. I have been looking on reclamation yard websites and am by how much they are. DH thinks £800 for a door is a bit steep. I'm working on him.

if you are reasonably handy and can get the door you could try a stained glass supplier - something like this. there used to be a marvellous one near me but it got taken over and shut down.

A few years ago we bought the correct style of door from B&Q in unpainted, unvarnished pine. It had the glass panels you would want for an authentic victorian look but they were all plain so we bought some glass paint from an arts / crafts shop and filled in the panels we wanted coloured with the colours we wanted. It worked out to be a much cheaper option than the reclamation yards -about £100 inc handles, paint etc. If you prefer, there are companies who specialise in making transfers for this kind of door so instead of a plain colour you can have an authentic victorian pattern in the corner panels.

It's always worth making a trip to your local council 'recycling centres' aka rubbish tips - if you're lucky you might find one there, or at the very least they should be able to tell you if they get them in very often.

If you want the door to look authentic then it is a good idea to have a nose at a neighbours original door (if poss) or look on the reclamation websites to see what a 'proper' victorian internal door would look like. A friend of mine kitted out their whole house with very expensive 'Victorian style' doors from a certain well known DIY chain only to find out they were actually a Georgian design
