Anyone had shoes made for their child?

Ds (age 5) has super wide feet, now on the limit of Clarks and startrites width fitting, cos he was born with extra big toes (now removed by surgery) and still has an extra metatarsel (sp?) in his left foot. Also very high insteps.

So it looks like we may have to go for custom-made shoes (eeeek, costs a lot i think).

Where do we start? Do we have to go down the medical route?

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Easy, fraid I can't help, but can relate to your problem as my ds has very wide feet (17 months) and I struggle to find him well fitting shoes..

Hopefully this will bump the thread and I'll also watch for replies!

I think Blu might be a good person for this, I know her DS has to have his shoes specially made (for medical reasons) I think the whole process is quite long and drawn out and involves an awful lot of waiting........

might be worth going down the medical route Easy - as you know there not in shoes 5mins and having to have them custom made every couple of months will cost a fortune.

there are some helpful tips on this, the disabled living foundation website, about how to find suppliers. they suggest that you can also get NHS funding if there's a medical reason for differently shaped feet
