Wondering whether to get one to have in garage. Currently have fridge freezer that's OK for day-to-day, but no good if I batch cook (which I'd like to more).

Anyone got any recommendations? Any brands to avoid?

We have one - Hotpoint I think. Had it 4.5 yrs and it just sits there doing its thing, not troubling anybody except the time our builders somehow switched it off and we lost everything.

Apparently you shouldn't get one that is frost-free for the garage as it gets too cold (the garage not the freezer obviously) and the frost free won't work properly - so the man at Curry's said anyway. Quite glad about that as they are more expensive.

I know you then have to defrost it but I think I have probably done mine once or twice in 4.5 yrs once when we moved and once when the nice builders decided it was time for a clear out. It isn't all covered in layers of frost so there has been no need to do it more often. Trick is to keep it full - loaves of bread are very good for that until you have other stuff to put in it.

I shoulda had more faith, 100x

I can see the lure of WW's mother and her quaint expletives though.

Yes, we have a door from our kitchen to our garage that DH leaves open All The Time

Interesting re frost free being a no in a garage though

We have no fridge in our kitchen atm - no room for it, despite being a fair-size kitchen - we have two sinks and two cookers though... Our fridge-freezer's in the garage.

I have a Liebherr - I got it only because it was the most energy efficient one. It's great, but I find the basket things on top a bit fiddly.

i think ours must be frost free because we've had it for 3 years and never de-iced it

and it's our our garage

and we live in freezeing scotland

I absolutely LOVE having a chest freezer. It was an inspred gift from lovley friends of ours, an older couple, when we moved here. I'm sure it saves us loads of money (as well as batch cooking you can buy up special offers like when all the specialty bread's reduced to 10p).
