I started a thread on this a while ago but I can't find it!!
We've just been to look at a citroen berlingo but we are gonna have to squeeze a 4 yr old, 1 yr old and newborn in the back! Is it possible? Should we be looking at a different car? Any recommendations? (we are trying to avoid an MPV!)
TIA!

I recently comfortably had three 18-month-old children in their big car seats in the back of my Picasso. Plus, front airbag is switch-offable in case of emergency fourth child.

We have the Peugeot 307 SW. It has 3 individual adult sized seats in the back. All can fit car seats. All can be adjusted, all can fold, and tip forward to make a HUGE boot should you need that, and you get 2 extra detachable seats for the boot, making a 7 seater should you need to transport one extra person.

look here

A FIAT Multipla, if you are brave enough

redclover79 · 16/12/2007 14:39

Lol broccoli, this is an emergency 3rd child situation! How did you go about getting the middle child in? Did you have to 'launch and hope' or is there enough room to get in yourself as well? We are planning on looking at a picasso rather than ogling other people's while in carparks!!
Quintessential, I shall go and have a look on ebay to see how much they cost second hand!
Franca- I like the multipla! We've been looking at them too but we've not seen any for sale locally!

nissan tino.

i had 3 kids under 5 in mine. now they are 7,5 and 2 and still fit ok. two high back boosters and one second stage seat in the middle.

QuintessentialShadowOfSnowball · 16/12/2007 14:50

Another good point about the peugeot, is that it can fit an adult in the middle in the back too. And you can fit a child in the front, as the airbags can be turned off. Especially useful if you need to sit with a sick child. And the boot is really big, with space for pushchair, bike, scooter, and shopping.

I would keep the oldest in the middle, as he would be able to strap himself. It is roomy enough to climb into the middle even with childrens car seats on either side.

needmorecoffee · 16/12/2007 14:59

I had 3 under 4's in a 1.3 Ford Escort. Its the car seat choice that makes the difference.

minspugs · 16/12/2007 15:15

we cant afford a new car so at times im going to have to squash a 7 yr old, 2 yr old and new born in the back of our vauxhall vectra estate. havent tried all the seats yet but to be honest im not hopeful. does anyone know what the narrowest booster seat (for 7 yr old) is you can get?

NAB3littlemonkeys · 16/12/2007 15:21

We have a grand scenic and have had 1 baby seat, 1 stage 2 and one backed booster in the back.

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 16/12/2007 15:21

i managed to get 3 car seats i nthe back of a vauxhall astra estate. it was tighter than the tino, but perfectly do-able.

TroutSprout · 16/12/2007 15:26

grand scenic

slalomsuki · 16/12/2007 15:28

Ordinary Scenic for me but I should really have gotten the Grand version due to all the crap I have to transport.
3 full sized seats in the back withthe middle one fairly easy to reach from the front or the side.

boredwantachange · 16/12/2007 15:31

was going to sat ordinary scenic, but beaten too it, i want to get rid of ours so if your in the sheffield area........

Millarkie · 16/12/2007 15:54

Fiat Multipla - mine's fab.

Have had a Citreon Picasso as a hire car - would fit 3 seats but was not enjoyable to drive.

francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2007 16:30

Our Multipla is fab as well, but when we first moved to the UK (8 yrs ago) people would point at it and laugh

redclover79 · 16/12/2007 19:39

Are multipla's reliable? We are keeping a look out for one locally to go and have a look at, but no luck so far!!

Millarkie · 16/12/2007 21:26

Mine's reliable - and I work with someone who has had multipla's for years (he buys new ones though, mine is Y reg)

tassisssss · 16/12/2007 21:26

we have a scenic and it's great for this

mylittleponey · 16/12/2007 21:26

a scenic?

Millarkie · 16/12/2007 21:27

Oh no, where are those apostrophes coming from? Multiplas.

francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2007 23:12

Our Multipla is 8 yrs old.

Tommy · 16/12/2007 23:17

we have a Berlingo and can fit all three of them across the back - the boot is much biger than other cars as well so you can put the pushchair and all the other stuff you have to carry around with you in it as well. I love ours

francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2007 23:19

Yes, a dear friend of mine has a berlingo and it's very nice

Octo · 16/12/2007 23:20

DO NOT GET A C8

I now have a Honda FRV and the quality is a trillion times better than the C8.

Praminthehall · 17/12/2007 19:28

We have a Berlingo - love love love it. Can easily get 3 car seats in back. Boot space fantabulous (bikes, double buggies, super-family-sized-supermarche blowout) and visibility excellent.

Did I say we love it?
