i would love to be able to help, need the room in the shed anyway, but will have to have a think , check out couriers if you like.
i wonder if it would need packaging, presume they would have a van, could it get damaged otherwise?

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 13:33

something like this courier.
Packaging ould be maybe an old sheet to protect from scratches maybe? i don't know. I don't want to make it too much hastle for you.

check out your salvation army shop

mufti · 14/12/2007 13:35

so is that a flat fee of £8.99, if so that is good.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 13:36

I think it depends on size/weight etc but basically that price.

How do i find if i have salvation army near by?

mufti · 14/12/2007 13:36

good idea re charity shop, but you still have to get it home.

TheWiltedRose · 14/12/2007 13:38

lol ive got the same problem its just not the same sitting on the sofa balencing dinner on your lap is it? ive been doing it for a year now as i have no room for a table in my living room or kitchin but i was hoping to find a fold up one in time 4 xmas, if your really stuck why dont u lok at a plastic picnic table from asda or something its better than nothing!

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 13:42

Sorry to hear that wiltedrose. Its not the same at all and i only have a small 2 seat sofa and 4 dc! So they eat sat on the computer chair or sofa.
DD1 and DD2 have big plastic highchairs (convert to chairs for at a table!) so they are ok but they don't like it much!

OP posts:
TheWiltedRose · 14/12/2007 13:43

yeah i have 2 highg charirs but there old and neither can be put up against a table if i get one so im a bit stuck anyway lol
I could always tie ds2 to the chair...

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 13:45

Lol!
I am hoping if the chairs won't fit they will be happy to still be nearby at the side of the table! At least we would all be at the same height!

Do any of your neighbours/family not have a patio set you could borrow?

We used a patio set in our rented house as a lot of our stuff was in storage.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 13:50

Not seen any in Neighbours garden but tis a good idea.
Family live a bit too far away! (Turkey)

Definitely don't give up on Freecycle. i've just given our old table away recently and the person who took it off my hands had no transport. I was happy to deliver it locally rather than see it go to the tip and I'd had to have taken it there myself anyway.

Also we received a small old fashioned drop leaf table for MIL from frecycle last year, which was perfect for her small space, but seats us all when we visit. I'm sure someone wouldn't mind helping out if you explain your situation.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 14:07

Thanks Aero.
My message hasn't come up on freecycle yet.(yes obsessively checking inbox!)

Hope you get one tortoise. I was just thinking of you as I was going through my emails and someone local to me is offering a pine table with four chairs! Shame you weren't closer!

nailpolish · 14/12/2007 16:12

havent read whole thread - just wanted to say we have done 2 things for this dilemma

  1. we used a pasting table (this is ok but shoogly)
  1. we went to a joiners yard and got a big sheet of wood - that kind thats made from shavings oh wahts it called) and 4 square bits for legs. it cost about 50p and was used for kindling afterwards!
nailpolish · 14/12/2007 16:13

ps

obviously its hand y to have tablecloths as they are not the nicest looking tables

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 17:15
