a hand whisk and a jug blender or just a Magimix processor??? I have to choose and order today to get it in time for crimbo and my brain is hurting.

I have it in my head that if I buy a processor then I must buy a Magimix but then if I want to blend things like soup etc. I need a separate jug blender as well? Or should I get a Blender (like Kitchenaid) and then buy cheaper hand whisk and not worry about the other functions.

So far I have been getting by with a cheap hand blender and whisk but they are in need of replacement.

Please tell me what to do so I don't have to think any more[pleading emoticon]

I think you need a nice early glass of wine.

Sorry to be more further help than that!

DanaScully · 13/12/2007 10:24

NO further

What do you want to make? Food processor best for chopping, grating, slicing etc (boring kitchen jobs no one likes) Blender good for making soup, batter, cocktails etc, Kitchen aid type mixer ace for cakes, bread dough, pizza dough and so on. Hand blender good for blending large quantities.

MrsBadger · 13/12/2007 10:27

you want this or similar
that has a jug blender and a food processor that fit on the same base.

KitchenAid etc only worth it if you have lots of space and make lots of cakes/meringues

CarmenerryChristmas · 13/12/2007 10:27

I manage quite well with a stick blender with whisk attachment but my kitchen is tiny. My preference would be a magimix.

MrsBadger · 13/12/2007 10:31

(cheaper versions of my favoured type here and here)

mylittleponey · 13/12/2007 10:32

dh had a mixer - was such a hassle to clean. Now he has a hand held blender & is so much easier & does a great job with soups.

Scootergrrrl · 13/12/2007 10:36

Easiest way to clean a blender or processor is to half fill it with warm water and a drop of washing up liquid then pulse til clean. Makes LOADS of bubbles too!

bigmyrrhstrikesagain · 13/12/2007 10:37

Oh thank you all - for your replies

Dana wine is tempting but I should wait until after toddler group (well probably).

Mrs Badger that lot looks good - I had set my heart on a Magimix but very tempted.

Carmenere - I have space I think (will chuck out the remains of earlier kitchen equipment that has been neglected).

Scootergrrl - I make most things from cakes to soups, smoothies etc. and have managed so far but something to speed up all the veg chopping etc. would be appreciated.

hmm - still not sure magi + handblender or the Kenwood all singing all dancing set up.

Could save up for a kitchenaid after getting magimix....

oh the domestic drama of it all

I have a Kenwood Chef with a blender attachment, and a hand-held blender with a whisk attachment. I lurve them both, but find that I tend to use the hand-held blender much more often than the Chef blender, and the Chef whisk much more often than the hand-held whisk atttachment. I also had them in a tiny kitchen.

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 13/12/2007 10:40

You can get food-processor/chopping/slicing attachments for the Chef. It depends on whether you want your machinery out on the ocunter all the time, or to keep things tucked away and only pull out the bits you need at that moment.

bigmyrrhstrikesagain · 13/12/2007 10:41

okay I think a magimix and a good handblender.

I am such a grass is greener type that I will regret whatever i decide I might as well throw a dice!!!
