I used tots bots and motherease wraps, thought they were both fab and managed 2 kids in one set birth to potty

Santasmissyontheside · 12/12/2007 11:59

as in tots bots the shaped nappy with m/e on top?

OP posts:
rudolphdoesntneedbratnav · 12/12/2007 12:11

Yes, and used nappy nippers to do the nappies up

Santasmissyontheside · 12/12/2007 12:13

Don't buy a load of one type of pocket nappies as how well you will do with each type will depend on the shape of your baby. Many people seem to get on with Fuzzis and Bumgenius quite happily. I also like Pocket Bots - look up her website (will try to find it for you later if I can). Pocket bots have fab colour schemes and are very well designed, if they suit your little ones shape you'll love them.

Motherease BTP not my favourite nappy, not absorbant enough - their bamboo version is better IME but not tried it out enough to have a decent verdict on it yet. Motherease WRAPS are fab and bomb proof (getting bored with their designs now though).

You can boost your pockets with your existing prefolds when you need a lot of boosting. Bamboo terrys make an excellent night booster. Otherwise you have a choice of hemp or microfleece - what is best for you will depend on your individual circumstances.

Santasmissyontheside · 12/12/2007 18:27

thanks coby that is great. have heard lots about m/ease but like you mmentioned thedesigns are bit boring! what do you use? do you find pockets easier and less bulky?

I use Ellas House Day nappies (and their usual bumhuggers at night). They are the thinnest fitting nappy I have ever tried and they have fab absorbancy, but being hemp, you'll need a tumble drier to keep them soft. I love mine, they are third hand (which is great for hemp as it takes ages to get to full absorbancy) and I paid £2 each for them . I use a tesco value microfibre cloth (3 for 89p) inside to increase absorbancy and keep the nappy soft near the essential bits IYSWIM . I Use motherease airflow wraps over the top which are fantastic. Obviously these aren't pocket nappies though, but they are just as thin, if not thinner fitting IMO.

I've used a lot of different nappies though and I used pockets exclusively before I moved over the the EHDN. My DD2 was so wriggly I just couldn't get anything else on her. I also needed something thin fitting as DD1 used dispicables disposables and I needed to be able to hand her clothes down to DD2 and have her cloth fit under them. Pockets are much easier to put on, quick drying and less bulky but you need to find one that doesn't leak due to it not matching your babies shape. Once you've found the right one, I'm sure you'll be very happy indeed. I was, I only sold my pockets as I needed the money at the time and I had found a cheaper alternative.

Have a look at this website for Pocket Bots. I loved these and this page shows why. Other pockets I've used include fuzzis, mommys touch, green acre designs (I challenge you to find some in this country though), Slinki Minkis and swaddlebees.

errr...I have a small nappy addiction

I think it's such a personal thing, you're best off getting advice about what suits you and your baby or doing a trial, plenty of the sites offer them & it needn't cost you much. My ds didn't get on too well with fuzzi's, they just didn't fit very well. The best pocket I have tried is the wonderoo by hip hip baby, I think they're excellent and good value for money as they're btp and the colours are quite nice. I think the bumgenius is quite good too ,and they're on sale at present only £7 each.
Most people seem to have one or more MEO's but they're quite boring really at the end of the day and as coby said they're not that absorbant really. ME airflows really do the job but they're also pretty boring!
Berry plush would give you a funky wrap and a nice slim nappy as well, really gorgeous!

Santasmissyontheside · 12/12/2007 21:27

he he thanbks for all that i will check out that site! i did have a buggy addiction but not any more! i think this will be my new one!

what accessoreswithbabysick (cool name)says is very true. I had a quick sneak at your profile Santasmissy to see where you are - there are real nappy incentives in your area - £25 I believe. Type your postcode in here to discover more

I am a nappy advisor for my county area - part of chanelling my addiction into something positive

btw- that is a good price for bumgenius isn't it, I presume it is to clear the old stock in preparation for the V3.

DennytwasNewYear · 12/12/2007 21:58

We use little lambs cotton nappies, a little bulky, but never been a problem, great absorbancy, no fancy designs though.

accessorizewithbabysick · 12/12/2007 22:16

I would have been very tempted to buy a few more bg's but have just purchased 2 berry plush! Kittykins doing them for £7, others 2 for £14 and I think they're great nappies anyway, great for dp and nursery!

Santasmissyontheside · 12/12/2007 22:46

so how does the incentive scheme work?

OP posts:
coby · 12/12/2007 23:13

different schemes work in different ways so not sure how the one up your way works. Some you get a trial pack that includes money back vouchers, others you just send a receipt for the purchase of your nappies and they reimburse you the first £25 or whatever. There are probably others which work in different ways though. Your best bet is to ask your local scheme provider.

Santasmissyontheside · 12/12/2007 23:19

OP posts:
coby · 13/12/2007 13:41

did you type in your postcode and get a list of suppliers and schemes etc?

Santasmissyontheside · 13/12/2007 14:09

OP posts:
coby · 13/12/2007 14:19

what a pain. If you have no luck your local council should have the up to date number.

speak2deb · 13/12/2007 14:24

Have to put my two-pennorth in for Baby Beehinds. They are funky, really easy to use and grow with your baby, so you only have to buy the wraps as bubs grows. Only downside is that they aren't the fastest drying nappies around, because they're made of bamboo.

I've been using them for my dd since she was 2 weeks old and they're fab. You can find them here

coby · 13/12/2007 21:09

speak2deb - yep, I agree with you on the baby beehinds - very much like the nappies I use just btp. If I'd have thought ahead I would have gone for these instead of having to buy a whole new set of nappies for DC3 (not much of a chore for me , but more expensive). Most btp nappies I find are far too bulky on newborns but these clearly aren't. So good to see photos of these fitting well on babies of very different ages too .

Santasmissyontheside · 13/12/2007 21:16
