I am not inot designer gear or posing, but the tatty old tracksuit bottoms I have been wearing for years have to go.

I don't want scarily tight stuff, neither do i want that floppy yoga stuff.

Have looked at Sweaty Betty website-choice seems limited as well as damned pricey.

Anyone??

I'm wearingthese at the moment - well not right at this moment lol, scabby t-shirt and a long sleeved thingy from Milletts.

I need long trousers now though as it's turned cold.

MrsGrinch · 11/12/2007 22:22

Might get these long ones

moondog · 11/12/2007 22:25

Those long ones are nice.i don't think that I could do the calf length look.
Will the cotton drag me down?
i feel that at present with what i wear. I run between 5-10 km and it seems to offer resistance.
Should i be wearing some high tech fabric?

The high performance ones are so bloody expensive.

These aren't too bad price wise.

These not so fitted but getting on the pricy side.

moondog · 11/12/2007 22:35

Those pictures don't give much away though do they?
i don't mind paying a bit but i reaLLY OBJECT TO THE WAY SPORT HAS BECOME SO FETISHISED WITH ALL THIS HIGH TECH. crap.
For God's sake i just want to sweat a bit and get some fresh air!

My most comfortable clothing for running in must be at least 10 years old (lycra running tights that I dragged out of the back of the cupboard and have cut off just below the knee). Not the height of fashion at all (although they are purple in colour which i am told is 'in') but they are so comfortable that I will not give them up.

Why dont you wait for the sales and go and have a mooch for some bargains. If you're happy to go with last season's colour, cut etc you should be able to get some good bargains.
Try lots on until you find a make/style/cut that suits your shape etc and then look on line for some bargains in that range.

moondog · 11/12/2007 22:46

Yes,good idea. No,don't give two hoots about 'last season's' colours and styles!
I live in a very rural area though.

Gawd knows why i bother. The only people who see me run are sheep anyway.

tkmaxx has lots of sports stuff reduced all the time.

i wear slightly baggy next leggings, can't be doing with flapping round the ankles. a vest, long sleeved tshirt and woolly hat if needed. do you have gloves? i am not out for longer than 25mins so am doing without.

MrsGrinch · 11/12/2007 23:03

at the sheep. I just scare the neighbours.

I'm needing shoes at the moment but have to wait for Santa to come.

themoon66 · 11/12/2007 23:06

Cotton stuff drags you down if it gets wet I find. Some of my best running gear has come from Aldi - a lovely red jacket that doesn't flap around and covers my bum - £8. Running tights with clever pockets for keys - £6.

mckenzie · 12/12/2007 07:13

did you see the articles in the press recently about shoes MrsGrinch? It basically said that some of the mid range priced shoes were just as good if not better than the very top priced ones. The main thing to ensure was that you had chosen a specific running shoe but not worried too much about paying £100+ for the latest new little gadgeted shoe that gave you 0.005% better stability/support/cushioning or whatever than the basic model.

DeePancrisPaneven · 12/12/2007 07:22

but, moondog..Welsh sheep can be pretty picky..imagine your shame as even the sheep turn their backs as you trot by!!

I weigh in at around 14 and a half stone and used to buy the top-of-range 'heavier runner' Ascics Gel Keyano at £120..no more!! Have a Nike pair at £50. Just as good.

But def. on the 'breathable' fabric, yes. Worht the spend, and these days it isn't really excessive...unlike Ascics Gel Keyano...

moondog · 12/12/2007 09:18

Cheers.
Some good tips.
When out i do about 10 k so i start with gloves then tuck them into my waistband.
I like to start underdresses. It's the only thing that makes me shift my arse, being cold.

I will endeavour to provide the sheep with a quick fashion show as I race shuffle past.

I find the fabric that wicks away moisture is the best - Nike is expensive but I have some stuff that has lasted for years... every time I buy cheap running clothes they just never last or look as good, esp as they get washed so much.

Found Sweaty Betty fab being more figure-flattering though, lived in their yoga pants post-pregnancy. Maybe wait until the sales?

MrsGrinch · 12/12/2007 10:30

I saw that mckenzie. I wear Asics too but I don't pay over £50 - I get last years model
