Where can I find something like this but not from gltc?

The garage is important, train tracks too would be a bonus.

I know you said the train is not so important, buy Ikea do a great wooden train set which is really cheap compared to all the brio and other ones. Good luck with the garage.

wooden garage here from elc

wooden track available anywhere esp this time of year but this looks like it ticks lots of your boxes

have to say i didn't look at the cost of the GLTC one b4 i posted

MuffinMclay · 06/12/2007 14:57

Cannot face IKEA, I'm afraid.

I started off planning to buy just a garage. Then the gltc garage/train combo looked good so ordered that (although the garage on that one isn't as good as some). Just had to cancel that order, so need an alternative.

a cheaper one here, but actually I think the gltc seems like very good value, with all those bits and pieces

WashSantasRedSuitErsaurus · 06/12/2007 14:59

We have this garage and car wash - tis fab

Astrophe · 06/12/2007 15:02

there are lots on ebay

MuffinMclay · 06/12/2007 15:13

MOMSOB - that one looks good (albeit twice the price). I'd prefer one without a play table, but I guess we could squash one in somewhere.

plan city

VickyA · 06/12/2007 15:58

Lidl have a train set coming in on Monday - Lidl - 81 pieces for £13.99. I haven't seen it myself but it's had good reveiws elsewhere I recall. I'm going to buy one for DH's godson, as at that price you can't go wrong, and could add the garagey bits fron elsewhere

VickyA · 06/12/2007 16:00

Doh! Preview girl, preview...! Write out 40 times - review!!! (and from, but that LOOKS like a typo, not inability to spell..!)

LIZS · 06/12/2007 16:29

Train track for £19.99 in the Entertainer with electronic trains.

mumofmonSTARsOfBethlehem · 06/12/2007 16:45

you can get a small circuit of wooden road that attaches to track from sainsburys for i think £14.99 (may be £9.99 but wanted to post the higher price!)am sure they do wooden track as well actually, if not i know tesco DEF do it

MuffinMclay · 06/12/2007 17:01

Thanks for all the ideas. Going to check them out later when ds is in bed.

Second vote for Chasing Squirrels' Plan City garage as you can then buy road, track, etc over time like this

ChasingSquirrels · 06/12/2007 20:23

ds1 had that plan city one that I posted for xmas when we was 2y3m from the inlaws. They had got him a plan city road set for his birthday 3mo earlier.
The road set they got him had a level crossing (just basic) that connected it to wooden train track (plan city is the same people as brio, so it fits all the wooden track types) and then we had a couple of basic level crossings in the adsa wooden train set for got him for his 2nd birthday which also could be used to link the road set it.

tbh I think there are better road tracks (elc), mainly because other tracks have a little lip at the edges so that the cars don't fall off, the plan city stuff is just flat.
But if you wanted to garage it might be worth checking if it gies with another sort of track and mix & matching.

We have all ours sitting in a box in the wardrobe for when ds2 gets a bit bigger - although saying that he is nearly 23m so maybe it is time to get it out.

MuffinMclay · 06/12/2007 21:01

Does the plan city garage suit matchbox sized cars? I can't tell from the picture. He has a lot of those. Think that one may be my best bet. I wish there was a wooden (and silent) equivalent of the blue plastic elc garage (love the ramp onthat one).

Think I'm going to go back to the original plan of just getting a garage, and possibly get a separate train set.

Someone has bought ds some Brio-compatible train bits, knowing that we'd ordered the gltc thing, so I guess we need some sort of track.

matchbox are similar to hotwheels aren't they? in which case I would say yes, the little wooden cars that come with it are smaller, but the bus and fire engine we have are a bit bigger than a hotwheels car.

MuffinMclay · 07/12/2007 19:32

Have ordered this one in the end.

The train set idea is on hold, or can be bought separately.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm all garaged out now.
