We have tried in vain to find waterproofs (coat, maybe trousers, wellies) for 13mo ds (walking). We've tried John Lewis, Hennes, Mothercare, M&S...

Anyone any ideas?

JoJoMamanBebe have them in their current catalogue

Ems · 14/10/2002 16:19

Yes emmabee, definitely go to Muddy Puddles, I was recommended them on here at Easter time. Great quality and prices. They have a website.

Urchin have them in their catalogue but have obviously upped the price, so go direct.

Thanks, that's very helpful.

I've got the Muddy Puddles waterproof trousers but there are some more here

SoupDragon · 14/10/2002 18:03

They've got some nice Wellies too if you search on "Boots"

batey · 14/10/2002 18:08

Boden, mail order or on-line do a good selection. Not cheap though. Actually it's Mini Boden you'll need.

Rhiannon · 14/10/2002 18:45

Years ago Mothercare used to sell useful items like decent rain gear. And they wonder why they've got problems.

bundle · 14/10/2002 18:53

very boring but cheap wellies - red with blue soles - are £2.99 in Woolies at the moment

XAusted · 14/10/2002 20:00

My kids have had all-in-one splash suits from the PHP (Kooshies nappies) catalogue. They keep them dry and clean when combined with wellies. Cheaper than a lot of other options, about 7 or 8 quid I think but that was a couple of years back.

BTW, doesn't it drive you made when you can get loads of trendy stuff for kids but nothing practical?

GillW · 14/10/2002 22:21

Try your local camping shop - we got an all in one by "Scanda" for DS which was about £15 I think - much cheaper than Muddy Puddles/JoJo, etc. Or if there's a MacKays near you, I've seen them there too at reasonable prices.

GillW · 14/10/2002 22:37

www.wildday.co.uk/acatalog/WildDay_Junior_Outdoors_Tots_89.html have waterproof suits from £10, or www.whiteandbishop-outdoor.co.uk/ have waterproof suits from £12.50.

For general outdoor stuff for kids you could try www.littletrekkers.co.uk/ or www.youngexplorers.co.uk/

I've got a wellies question which is sort of related to this thread. My ds has just moved from size 6 1/2 to 7 shoes. I'm thinking of getting some wellies but don't know if they'll get much use in the next few weeks by which time his feet may have grown again. Would anyone recommend getting size 8 for him to grow into, or would they just flop about?

SoupDragon · 16/10/2002 21:18

I find Woolies Wellies come up biggish - my son is at least an 8 1/2 and still fits his 8 wellies.

ScummyMummy · 16/10/2002 21:28

I love wellies. They are so cute.

tigermoth · 17/10/2002 13:01

OH so do I scummymummy!

much cheaper than shoes, last forever, easy to pull on, easy to clean...

Joe1 · 17/10/2002 13:12

I always buy wellies a size bigger, it helps to get their feet in them and you can put some nice thick socks with them as I always find wellies cold, or is that just because I slop around in mud during the winter due to ponies.

Mothercare have some nice ones for £6, Pooh Bear ones.

Soupdragon, have you got the waterproofs from the website you have added to your message? Reason for asking is I want to order some but they couldnt tell me anything regarding sizes over the phone as they only deal with catalogue stuff.

SoupDragon · 17/10/2002 13:23

No, I've not ordered from that catalogue as I've already got Muddy Puddles ones!

In the printed catalogue, the sizes are
1 - 2 yrs = size 86/92
2 1/2 - 4 yrs = size 98/104
5 - 6 yrs = size 110/116

Does this help?

And I've just bought shark wellies from Pumpkin Patch for DS2. OK, they were £6.99 and twice the price of Woolies ones but they are so cute and he gets so little new stuff...

Azzie · 17/10/2002 14:14

Buying wellies - if you have an active child (like my 5yo ds) make sure you buy a pair with a reasonable tread on them for good grip in the mud. We went wellie shopping a couple of weeks ago and found there was a great difference between makes in this - some of the fancy Woolworths ones just wouldn't be safe for my ds.

My ds climbed all the way to the top of CairnGorm in his Thomas the Tank Engine wellies this summer - quite put all those who came up in the funicular to shame, I thought .

Joe1 · 17/10/2002 16:22

Yep it does thanks Soupdragon, I will order some later, is their stuff hard wearing etc do you know as they will get lots of outdoor use all through the winter with ponies to do. Like the idea of the reflective bits on them. We had the Muddy Puddles all in one last winter but found that ds got too hot underneath and the inside would get wet.

SoupDragon · 17/10/2002 18:29

Sorry Joe1, I don't know!

GillW · 21/10/2002 14:16

All-in-one rainsuits for £4.73 (postage included) here
