Please help me to find a cupboard (ooh, I bet you're all wetting yourselves with excitement at the prospect of it)!

Just having utility room extended a little, so will have room for an extra cupboard.

Requirements are that it is free standing, full height, and has one of those doors that pulls out completely in front of it and has metal shelves attached to it, so that they pull out with the door.

Had a bit of a search a while back, but couldn't find any, but I know that I've seen loads in the past.

So, suggestions for where I can get one please, with links if poss.

Thank you.

I know which ones you mean. DH cousin in Norway have one of those (not sure if it was free-standing?) and they bought it from Ikea.

Will try and find one and post link. Also Wickes might do them?

mishymoo · 05/12/2007 12:43

This is the closest thing I could find on Ikea website - not exactly what you were looking for though. www.ikeaeu.ecweb.is/08/mgb/.

I know they definitely do them though so a trip to Ikea may be on the cards. HTH

I don't think the larder units at ikea are free-standing, as wouldn't it be like a filing cabinet problem- too heavy and pull it over when its opened?

EachPeachPearMum · 05/12/2007 13:07

would any of these help?

i want one of these to pretend I live in the space shuttle LOL!

Couldn't get your link to work mishy. Was trying to avoid going to Ikea if they don't actually sell them, and one friend has already looked unsuccessfully in store for me already.

Thanks for searching EPPM. Neither are quite what I'm after, but I like your kitchen in a cupboard .

Does anyone even know if this type of cupboard (the way I want it to open) has a particular name, as that would at least help my search. Am just searching on 'freestanding larder cupboard' at the moment.

I think I may be on to something here.... look at these links...

Not sure if they can be free-standing though as they may topple over when pulled open?

mishy you're a genius! Hadn't even occurred to me that the racking might be sold separately from the cupboard. I see what you mean though about poss needing a fitted cupboard for it. Hmmmmmmm. Not sure what to do about that.

CantSleighWontSleigh · 05/12/2007 14:44

this lot would make you a bespoke one

Twiglett · 05/12/2007 14:46

cuboardage is ver' important

ver' important indeed

it is hard to think of anything that gives more pleasure than good storage .. after all it is where one keeps one stuffy stuff

CountessDracula · 05/12/2007 14:46

here's one

Twiglett · 05/12/2007 14:47

you need to look in kitchen departments I think .. you can get freestanding units ..

I've got a pull-out larder (thin one) and a 60cm fitted cupboard that I bought individual pull-out metal drawers for (from homebase)

CantSleighWontSleigh · 05/12/2007 14:57

Last link doesn't work CD .
I'd stumbled across the Sebastian bloke in my searching, and have him bookmarked for if I need to not have pull outs.
Where did you get your pull out one from Twig? Is it freestanding?

Howdens (mentioned below) are very good, and their trade counter is very local to you (same town you go to the gym in). They won't sell direct to you, but a local carpenter or builder or will probably have an account with them. Most stuff is kept in stock so can be bought straight away.

We got our bathroom units from them.
