Double nipper - with or without front swivel wheel? Your opinions please!

I'm looking at buying a double nipper second hand and was thinking I'd just go for the fixed front wheel as my friend has this and it seems fine to push (and because I'm on a budget).

But, I'd value some opinions - anyone got this model and wish you had the 360? Anyone got the 360? Is it going to be worth the extra cost?

I'll probably one use it for about a year with a newborn and toddler.

Thanks!

I have the 360 and love it, it is the easiest pushchair to push I have ever had (singles as well). Can push with one hand and is especially good when the toddler is big and the whole thing is heavy to push. Only had a quick go on the fixed wheel in the shop so not much to compare it to though. Higher re-sale value for you on the 360 so may work out the same cost in the end?

I have a fixed wheel one. I Loooooooove it!
I have not seen a swivel one but the whole thing is so light that you can do it one handed anway though maybe not when they are both bigger...
What is the extra cost?

I had a fixed double and 360 single both fantastic pushchairs.

It was great having the handbreak on the double but to be honest having had a 360 I don't know how I coped without it when the twins were little. It's sooooo much easier pushing one handed and it practically glides everywhere. So I'd definately go for the 360 unless you live somewhere very hilly as that handbreak was useful going down extreme hills.

Just to add. Trying to negotiate round people with one hand and a slow toddler is much easier with a 360, you have to keep lifting the fixed so have to sometimes let go of said toddlers hand. It's sooo lovely not having to keep lifting to change direction, considering how little there is in it I'd definately get the 360, it would be easier to sell on too.

I have had the fixed wheel Nipper for 3 years and have been very happy with it. Only grumble was that it would have been much easier to use in shopping centres/on paved roads if it had a swivel - but was not an option at the time. Does not make much difference when you are cross country - so depends how much time you plan to spend outdoors vs in town.

Presume you would have to buy a 360 new whereas second hand would be significantly cheaper? Btw don't bother buying the shopping basket that goes under - I have never used the one I got as it hangs so low it catches on everything!

MilaMae · 04/12/2007 14:41

I didn't have the shopping basket on the double but have on the single and it's a godsend, did find those drawstring things annoying it's great being able to lob pre-school art work and shopping in the bottom.

It doesn't catch at all wondering if the 360s are slightly different. I'm sure my single 360 is more upright(seat position) than my fixed double.

MilaMae · 04/12/2007 14:43

Where are you and how immaculate do you want it to be as currently in the process of selling my double, friend letting me know this week if she wants it??? It's seen some action

Chopster · 04/12/2007 15:10

They are that lightweight, that even with 2.5 year old dts in it, I can get it up kerbs with one hand. I really don't think it needs a swivel wheel

HollyBerrie · 04/12/2007 15:33

Wouldn't be without my shopping basket!

Sidge · 04/12/2007 15:44

I've got the 360 double.

Fab fab fab. Can push and steer one handed even with 14 month old and nearly-4 year old in it.

I would go for the 360, it's easier to steer round town, but you can fix the wheel for off-road.

They seem to resell for more as well.

tassisssss · 04/12/2007 18:20

Thanks everyone, that's very helpful.

I do have to negotiate 2 steep hills on a very regular basis so that handbrake chat is interesting, thanks.

The fixed wheel one seems to go for only £100 on ebay, 360 is nearer £250 (and for that money I could get a phil and teds which had been the original plan, tell I clocked the price!). The resale thing is a gamble, I could make a lot back on a 360, or there might be something newer and fancier by the time I want to sell...

I'm in Central Scotland, but not looking to buy until the Spring (so will ask a zillion questions between now and then and may yet end with a P&T!!).

Good point. When I bought our fixed wheel one they were going for £200 on ebay which was only £60 less than new. Big difference now it's time to sell

jingleoooggs · 04/12/2007 18:57

I have had mine 8 months and went for the fixed wheel as living in hilly Cornwall the handbrake was more important than the swivel wheel - both would have been nice

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 05/12/2007 09:46

If you are onyl going to use it for about a year, then try to find a really good one on ebay, then you will make most of the money back when it comes to selling. I only paid about £60 for mine off ebay - though it is quite worn, but I rarely use one now the boys are so big.
