OK, so I have boys - I need somebody with girls to come and help me out!

I would love to get my adorable niece a doll for her first birthday. But I want a nice one. Bit special, since it's her first birthday.

All the ones I've seen (Chou-Chou, Annabel?) are, frankly, terrifying. I just want something sweet. Not one with an entourage or shedloads of accoutrements. Just - well, a dolly!

lol at terrifying

My dd has one by Corolle. But it was a present and I have a horrible feeling it cost ££.

DD got this for her first birthday. She loves it www.izziwizzikids.co.uk/products/1035

DD has a Corolle doll that her grandmother bought her for her first birthday (one of the ones from the 18m+ range). She had some other dolls but always prefers this one (although she has to fight 3yo ds for it!)

MarsSelectionBoxLady · 04/12/2007 12:19

artichokes I gave the DTs those dolls and they loved them. DT1 has now fully claimed them as DT2 has discovered he prefers cars and footballs. I bought a boy and a girl doll.

Mercy · 04/12/2007 12:20

Those look really nice, artichokes

EffiePerine · 04/12/2007 12:27

The Corolle dolls look lovely

Would it be a bit odd to get DS one? There's one he can take in his bath... though he is only interested in things with wheels atm (he's 14 mo)

Brangelina · 04/12/2007 12:34

Get a simple doll, don't bother with the ones that cry or poop at that age, or the ones that turn their head when you call them (spooky, think Chucky). A rag doll would be just fine.

DD just carries hers around and puts it in the pushchair occasionally. Now that she's a bit older she prepares meals but she wouldn't be interested in changing nappies and the like (she's 2.5).

HTH

Gipfeli · 04/12/2007 12:40

Not odd at all EffiePerine. My ds has always loved playing with dolls, (as well as cars, lego, and random pieces of card and paper that he leaves all over the house and which I must never throw away!)

bagpuss · 04/12/2007 12:48

I like the Corolle or My First Baby Annabel dolls. DD has the BA one and has had it since she turned one. She still plays with it a lot and she is 5! It is lighter than many of the other ones and I think that is important when buying a doll for a small toddler. You can also in some places get extra outfits for them but they are a little harder to come across than the full size versions.

amidaiwish · 04/12/2007 13:09

i bought this for DD1 3 years ago (for her first christmas) and her and DD2 still love this more than any other doll they have - and they have a few!

it is soft so nice to cuddle

it also has a magnetic mouth, so the bottle (feeding set) attaches to it.

We've got one of these

Not a traditional sort of doll but nice for a baby to play with as it does something.

Sam100 · 04/12/2007 13:42

Just got one of these for my 6 month old niece see here

amidaiwish · 04/12/2007 13:51

oh, now they are cute!

hunkermunker · 04/12/2007 14:14

Thank you all! Really like the look of the Corolle ones and will investigate a First Baby Annabel as well.
