The title says it all really. My dp loves a nice latte and I know absolutely zero about coffee as I am not a fan ... can anyone recommend a decent machine?

Save loads of dosh and just get an Aerolatte milk frother

I never find that coffee from domestic coffee machines tastes that great. I'm a huge coffee snob though

You can make good coffee in a (relatively inexpensive) Bialetti - less than £20.

Illy coffee is nice - you can get it in big Tescos/Sainsburys. Segafredo is nice too.

Trick with the milk is not to overheat it or overfroth it - it should be creamy frothy rather than foamy frothy.

Voila! Nice coffee-making kit for £30 rather than God knows how much for an espresso machine.

Will get off my anal soapbox now

PS I used to make coffees for a living when I was living in Australia and was told by a (v handsome ) Italian that I made the best coffee he'd tasted outside of Italy

Amazon how do you get it creamy frothy???

Dp makes great coffeee but his frothing skills could be improved on. We use the frother on the side of the Gaggia. I'm guessing it should always be full fat milk.

I think full fat milk is better. Can never understand why people have coffee with skimmed milk - yuk! Would rather drink tea

Start with the frother nozzle near the bottom of the milk and gently move the milk container up & down, occasionally bringing it right up near top of milk - don't leave it at the top of the milk though cos it will get too hot & ruin it. Leave the milk to stand just for a few seconds so the froth doesn't totally separate and get too foamy.

Most froth is spoiled when the milk gets too hot. Milky coffee should be at a temperature that can be drunk straightaway - if you have to leave it to cool down, it's too hot.
