as my slimline seems to have died (well it sounds like it's running - but the dishes are coming out looking like they went in ).

Not getting one straight away - need to wait for DH to get his December pay.....but I'd like some recommendations - getting a full sized one this time.

Only requirements are that is has a delay start thingymajig, and (most importantly ) it's available in silver

Did a lot of research into dishwashers when we got our first ever one (which I am now worryingly infatuated with ).

We ended up getting an Indesit IDL530 and it is fantastic and very good value for money. They do a silver model (I think it is the IDL530s ) but it doesn't have the delay start thingy you want. We have economy seven so we just wired it into a timer without any problems.

I think it is the curry's website that has a really useful customer review section (might be comet...sorry brain not working as usual). Well worth seeing what other people have to say about melting cutlery baskets etc!

Bosch and Miele ones are the best.

£££££ though

toolly · 04/12/2007 14:35

Definitely DO NOT get a BEKO. Ours died after 9 months, its replacement lasted two.
Go to the library and look up the Which guide.

amazonianwoman · 04/12/2007 15:09

Apparently John Lewis do a one with a delay start thing. Haven't had one, but rate their products generally

TwoRustyDoves · 04/12/2007 15:11

I have a John Lewis one & it's very good. It is available in silver, but when I bought mine it was £100 extra - you'd have to be pretty fussy about the look of your kitchen to pay that.

WriggleJiggle · 04/12/2007 15:12

Do not ever ever ever get a proline one, or infact anything made by proline (comet's own brand). Ours died after 6 months and the engineer who came out to look at it didn't have a good word to say about them.

I love our Bosch as they have a 20 minute quick cycle on them which is fantastic but just had a browse and they don't do it in silver (although do do black)

On the john lewis website you can search for dishwashers based on the finish and they seem to have quite a few in silver or stainless steel and you can then compare the features of your favourites

TQOQ - we bought this dishwasher from Dixons a month ago and I am very impressed:

We're on a water meter, so water consumption was very important for us, and this is one of the lowest ones you can get. Everything else is AAA rated.

The wash quality is absolutely spot on, it's so quiet you can't often tell if it's on or not (which is great if you're using it in the middle of the night) and it does have a delay start switch.

The quick wash cycle is also fine, although we use the eco cycle most of the time, although be warned - the eco cycle takes nearly two and a half hours!

HTH

Naetha · 04/12/2007 17:11

Oh btw if the link doesn't work, it's a Bosch SGS46E28G Silver Dishwasher

TheQueenOfQuotes · 04/12/2007 18:17

Thanks for all of this - Naetha - I'm not worried about how long the eco takes - our one that died took 3hrs .

The reason I want silver is because, quite unintentionaly we've ended up with a silver washing machine, fridge-freezer and microwave.....and I've got my eye on a silver toaster....and I want it to match .

We have a Bosch one and it has been great, although our Bosch Fridge Freezer died after about 4 weeks and our Zanussi (made by Bosch) washer drier has been repaired more times than I can count on two hands. I would buy a Bosch dishwasher again.

MinnSpyHandCream · 04/12/2007 18:40

My Bosch is 13 years old and never been a days trouble.

Buy the simplest one - less to go wrong and you will probably use only one or two cycles.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 04/12/2007 18:54

My machine has 5 cycles - and I've used all of them, Intensive, Normal, Economy, Quick and the Rinse thingymajig.....

ours is AEG, its fab, we've had it 4 years, no problems, has a 30 min cycle that is v efficient which we use most of the time also delay timer, love it

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 11/12/2007 13:55

My Bosch has died after less than 3 years so i shall be avoiding Bosch like the plague

SilentBite · 11/12/2007 13:56

miele without a doubt

MuffinMclay · 11/12/2007 20:24

Don't like my Bosch, and wouldn't get another one. The stuff in the bottom doesn't come out clean, despite me cleaning all the filters, spray arms, gunky edge bits etc.
