Nespresso do good ones which just produce an espresso. We have one of their machines with fancy bits and it is really very good and has needed no maintenance in 6 years. here is the website.

As much as I hate nestle I have to admit nespresso machines are very fine and so easy

bagpuss · 03/12/2007 19:57

And advertised by the divine Mr Clooney of course!

CountessDracula · 03/12/2007 19:59

lol
Thought of CD and her Clooney endorsed Nespresso machine straight away.

CountessDracula · 03/12/2007 20:26

I have had several others. They are all fine but messy and take time compared to nespresso

they do break regularly for some reason so I would get a cheapo one, Krups or something

CountessDracula · 03/12/2007 20:26

oh

I haven't the courage of my convictions it would seem

moondog · 03/12/2007 20:34

Wot about one of those stove top jobbies?
Cheap and functional.
Alas,am banned from using mine as I left the middle bit out and pebbledashed our guests and the entire kitchen with boiling coffe grounds.

Twice.

Tip toes in very quietly. Whispers "I bought a Nespresso machine on Saturday". I love it.

bagpuss · 03/12/2007 20:39

Gosh, clearly I am the only one interested in a nice cup of coffee and a pretty face .

Moondog, yowch! Are you still friends with your dinner guests?

Iota · 03/12/2007 20:40

my dh bought our Nespresso machine - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

bagpuss · 03/12/2007 20:45

Iota, was it you that recommended the aeroccino to me last year? If so it is very good! It was dh's christmas present to me last year .

selby · 03/12/2007 20:53

Gaggia Classic - DH is a coffee snob! Wait until the Jan sales - we did last year and managed to get it for £210 instead of the normal £300 from HoF. If you don't want to spend so much money, you cannot beat the stove toppies for a decent but cheap method of making expresso. Once you spend the big bucks, there's no going back - then, you have the buy the 'decent' coffee to go in it!

moondog · 03/12/2007 21:05

BaGPUSS, I think so althoguh come to think of it there is one couple i have seen rarely ever since.....

Spidermama · 03/12/2007 21:09

I'm a coffee geek too and I love my Gaggia Cubika. It does milk too, but you don't have to froth milk. My dh has espresso and he loves it.

Gaggia Cubika's can be bought for around a hundred pounds, reconditioned, from Gaggia. Mine was about £80 on ebay. That and some Illy coffee (or better still freshly ground beans but then buying a decent grinder is a whole nother expense.)

You can send them back to the company for servicing too and you can easily get the bits for them.

I used to have a stove top and it simply doesn't compare taste wise.

I bought DH a Gaggia for Christmas 4 years ago (I've just checked and apparently it is a Trevi Plus). It was an ex-display model at Whittards so much more affordable. Never had a problem with it. Does have a milk steamer tho, so maybe too faffy for you?

Anna8888 · 03/12/2007 21:13

We have a Nespresso (given free to my partner...), it makes lovely coffee and is extremely easy to use.

Before that I had a Francis-Francis machine that used ESE Illy capsules. Machine was much more beautiful than Nespresso but messier. Coffee was still great though.

Bagpuss - it might have been - we do have one, but I haven't used it for ages (keep going out for cappuccinos)

So which all singing all dancing machine ie capp, espresso, filter, milk would you go for? Just looked at the Gaggia site yesterday anD became rather overwhelemd by choice - I know how pathetic. Thought I'd try some of you mners for tried and tested advice - THANK YOU!!

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 04/12/2007 05:15

I bought the Nespresso without the frother as I am not overly keen on milky drinks. Would only use if I had people over. Quite like your frother!

Morphy Richards Roma. About £55. Reccommended it to Justine. Justine, how is it working out for you?
