Dp is buying me a new hoover! What shall I get?

Having only ever used whatever the rented house of the time came with, dp is getting me my very own hoover. This possibly excites me more than it should.

So, for around the £100 mark I want something that:

Is not too heavy.
Is reliable.
Actually sucks for more than 5 mins after changing the bag.
Has bags that can be found and bought in actual shops that exist/ is bagless.
Is good for allergy sufferers.
Doesn't have loads of stupid fiddly bits like filters that clog up every 5 seconds or bags that take a rocket scientist several days to work out how to change.
Is easy to clean. Hands up who has spent ages unwinding really long hair from a rotating brush.

Not too fussed about upright or not though since the hoover curently lives in the corner of the living room suppose upright would be a bit neater.

Sorry no idea, the one I have and swear my is about £250.

But felt compelled to post, as you made me

onepieceoflollipop · 02/12/2007 14:35

Get a Henry.

My reasons:
They are cute (!)
They have a large bag that rarely needs changing and you can get bags in cheap shops like Wilkos.
Is reliable.
Around your price mark too.

We had a Dyson previously and although we were pleased overall the Henry is better.

RBH · 02/12/2007 14:35

Get a Henry, they rule! Homebase had them for under £100 a couple of weeks ago. And the Entertainer sell little kids' fake versions!

CarGirl · 02/12/2007 14:38

my miele is fantastic the best ever and still going strong after 7 years! I think the cheapest miele is £150 in Argos catalogue but may be cheaper on line somewhere?

Enigmama · 02/12/2007 14:39

Not Henry. Awful things.

Argos sell a Samsung that is about £75. I have had one for 3 years. It is excellent - better than my neighbour's dyson.

Hmm it appears to have DOUBLED in price since I bought it 3 years ago!

pooka · 02/12/2007 14:42

Another vote for miele. They really really are fantastic. But can be pricey.
Must admit to thinking "hurrah what a lovely present " when reading your post!
But a good hoover can make a big difference.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 02/12/2007 14:43

My miele is lovely but where do you get bags, cargirl!!?! I rarely use mine as bags are so dear. I ended up buying a Henry which is great.

Can I ask why you hate them, Enigmama?

IsawBUMPERkissingsantaclaus · 02/12/2007 14:45

Love my Henry!

Indith · 02/12/2007 14:48

Ok Henrey or miele so far!

I asked for a hoover for Christmas so he went to look at some in Currys today bless him. CAme back and said he couldn't get me a hoover for Christmas but he would get me one in addition to Christmas

You don;t have to buy the branded miele bags. My local electrical store sells generic, which are much cheaper.

onepieceoflollipop · 02/12/2007 14:49

Just to add also that Henry doesn't need any special filters or other replaceable bits - just the bags.

What colour Henrys do you all have? Mine is red, my mum used to have a yellow. They used to come in red, blue, yellow or green. I have only seen red ones recently!

RBH · 02/12/2007 14:52

Red. Do the other colours have different names? Am sure that years ago I worked in a restaurant that had a blue wet/dry industrial version that was called Edward, but could be imagining that!

RBH · 02/12/2007 14:54

Ooh look different colours! And a pink one called Hetty!

onepieceoflollipop · 02/12/2007 14:56

RBH you are right. Henry has at least one relative. I can't remember if Edward is/was one of the names. Henry himself did come in 4 colours (but maybe not now) as well as having the other versions I think in green and/or blue.

Henrys are often used in offices etc as well I think because there is little to go wrong with them and they are quite long lived.

Indith · 02/12/2007 14:57

Wow! Hetty is so cool!

I think my parents have a George actually.

onepieceoflollipop · 02/12/2007 14:57

Dear Father Christmas

I would like a pink Hetty please. I have been a good girl apart from the days I shout at my dds

Love from onepieceoflollipop

Indith · 02/12/2007 15:02

Hmm George is a little pricy but a cleaner that does wet carpet cleaning too! what mum of a messy eating 10 month old wouldn't want one!

OP posts:
lubyluby · 02/12/2007 15:02

i have ahenry after 3 different dysons dying on us within a year we decided to stick with basic henry, but its been fab. although have a need for a pink hetty, but my henry is not very old so will stick with him, plus my mum ahs just briought lucy a toy henry for xmas.

the henry now has two suction choice hi and lo so is suitbale for all surfaces, i ahve a mix of carpet, wood and tiles in my house and is brilliant. bags are really cheap form most supermarkets so no worries there.

go for a henry you can't really go wrong.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 02/12/2007 15:05

We have one of [[http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4054461/Trail/searchtext%3EVACUME+CLEANER.htm these and its truly fab]

Loads of suction, you can take part of it out to do the stairs, it's truly fab would recommend totally.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 02/12/2007 15:05

That will be ojne ofthese and its truly fab

Indith · 02/12/2007 16:11

Looks pretty clever Scooby!

Think we would go for a George if spending that much though as the carpet cleaning would be well worth it in this house!
