I was in the Disney store the other day with my mother,my little girl loves it,when for the first time there I noticed bra and pants sets for 7to 8yr old girls. We were both shocked to see little bras for girls who surely shouldn't need them at that age.My question is are they sexualising girls far too early these days? Frankly I'm disappointed in the Disney store doing this.Bras are a necessity when needed not something for young girls to be hankering after as soon as they can?Does anyone buy these for their daughters? If the demand isn't there surely the bras sholdn't be either? What do you think?

On another note, when I was in there recently a member of staff showed my 3 yr old DD a toy that was along the same lines as the Aritocats soft toy I was already buying but was more expensive. Thus causing a family argument. Grrrrr.

Yes I agree about the bras and I also cannot stand the slogan t-shirts aimed at young girls.

Georgiana - complain, this is ludicrous.

dkdad · 12/10/2002 14:12

Complain. Or write to a newspaper.

The same just happened here in Denmark where one of the supermarket chains was selling G-strings for 8 year olds.

A 13 year old girl wrote to one of the national newspapers. Two days later all the products had been withdrawn.

In the current climate in the UK with recent murders of young girls I should think public opinion would be with you.

Yeah, I agree, consumer activism is the key to getting these things out of our shops. On another note, the Disney store supports child labout, so I steer clear anyway...

And I think we can all assume that Disney's marketing remit does not include specialist selling of appropriate underwear to the small minority of little girls who go through puberty earlier than average...
But then I think pretty much everything about the Disney store is outrageous.
I think you'd be quite right to complain, Georgiana.

there's also a market for crack - doesn't mean Disney have to sell it ;-)

that's why a bit of adverse publicity often has a greater effect.

Anyone who wants to email them to complain can do so via [email protected] - this was the only email address I could come up with after searching their gopping site for twenty minutes. Either they don't want to be contacted or I am extremely stupid (and I imagine it is probably the latter).

you used to only need to know the name of anyone in the organisation to email them. The protocol used to be [email protected] - worth a go to see if it gets thru. consumer power WILL make global corps like this consider changing their strategies so get writing everyone. As you can see from my name, Im not a fan. Changed it just for this
