I read about this on mumsnet but ElC do not sell them anymore. Had a a very scary choking incident on Sunday with my 16 month old and don't trust myself to judge anymore. I did a quick google but only found them on American sites that didn't ship to the UK. Does anyone know where to buy one?

I couldn't find any choke tubes either but this website suggests that the tube from a loo roll is the right size.

if you're really worried I'd also second the loo roll, not waste your money, but tbh, i think you need to get your confidence back & trust your instincts, as many small parts are integrated into toys iyswim, eg many toys say not suitable under age 3, even when they don't have individual small pieces, but they are composed of many pieces which potentially could come detached & form a choking hazard.

I'm sorry you had this experience, it is scary, but as I said, I think you'd be better off with a bog roll & trusting your judgment, after all, you won't have this gadget on you every time you go to a friend's house/playgroup etc. all the best xx

You can use the empty canister from a camera film and you can also carry around with you to check other toys. Good luck

thanks for those suggestions. It was a one of those cheap nesting boxes from ikea, not a toy but he liked putting them in each other. They are a bit like russian dolls but I hadn't realised the small one was that small. The day after he jumped on me when I had hot coffee. (Luckily I ran his arm under cold water and he loved playing with the tap). Then hours later his neck got caught briefly in the zip on his coat. Poor child, he will be advertising for a new mummy soon. Still at least that means I've had my 3 things!

sounds like my ds. frequently falls over just standing still (rolls eyes + guilt for being so impatient0

misdee · 10/11/2004 16:04

dh says he thinks our dd would choke on the choke hazrd tube.

lol at last 2 posts! Still am improvingI stopped him getting his hand bitten off by a swan today (can they really break a mans arm or is it an urban/rural myth) he didn't really understand the concept of throwing bread in the pond he just hung onto it until the wildlife got impatient.
