My (2 month old) mobile has taken a swim in a pint od water thanks to dd

It wasn't insured so i need ideas as i need a phone. I'm using my old one at the mo but tis very dodgy and turns off all the time!

I'm not too bothered about which phone but would like it to have a camera as i get 50 free mms with my contract.

Please helpme find a cheap replacement any ideas?

If it was just waterv then take allmthe bits of it that you can and then leave it to dry/hairdryer it - it should be ok - its only drinnks with sugar in that wreck fones - fa535ng that, asda had a nokia in today, didnt see what model but was free when you buy £20 of airtime

silly question-i will be able to put my sim card in and use it on my existing contract won't i?

OP posts:
prettymum · 30/11/2007 16:10

depending on who your contract is with, its on vodaphone so if you're with another line you'll probably have to get it unlocked

geordiemacminx · 30/11/2007 16:19

I would give your network provider a ring and explain tpo them - they might be able to help - especially if you mention that you cant afford to replace it and are going to get a paygo sim. (I have worked for t-mob, voda and o2 )

sammysam · 30/11/2007 16:25

but surely they won't care as they'll still get my line rental anyway?
i'm with 3

OP posts:
geordiemacminx · 30/11/2007 17:40

They might - as they wont get any revenue from any calls that you make above your line rental. Its not a certainty but it might be worth giving them a ring - lay it on thick

sammysam · 01/12/2007 08:42

Thats my problem though-I can't lay it on thick-I'm sure they always know when my dp is sorting out a new contract with them he always gets amazing deals-then i phone and say the same things and don't get one nearly as good
I'll try and give it a go though-thanks for the advice

I washed my mobile (twice) on a 40 degree cycle. I took the battery out, lay the phone on top of the radiator, and two days later, it was working perfectly (both times). It'd be worth a try.

geordiemacminxpie · 01/12/2007 08:54

Ok -fone them and go through to the disconnections department, ask them when your contract is due for renewal, tell them your fone is broken - that your dd sent it swimming. Tell them you are going to have to but a PAYGO fone as you need something asap, and that obviously you will want to cancel the contract as soon as possible. They might tell you to do one, or they might be able to help - they might be able to sort you out with a handset, or they might be able to offer you something as a discounted price. Customer loyalty is big business in mobile phone land - basically it costs them £275 to put you onto their network (handset, network costs etc) so assuming you are are paying £20 a month - they dont start and make money from you until the 2nd year - which is why they will want to keep you as a customer.

Its noyt like you are trying to scam them or anything - just asking if they can help before you have to go out and buy a new fone - you might be surprised - season of good will and all that

geordiemacminxpie · 05/12/2007 16:23

How did you get on?

Flier · 05/12/2007 16:29

ther was a tip in the sunday papers to put a wet mobile phone in a jar of rice, apparently it does work

sammysam · 06/12/2007 16:53

must admit i've not yet phoned-been hectic with mil in hospital but must do asap as the old phone i'm using is sowly packing up! I will turn it on again tonight and hope it works but must phone them up.....

OP posts:
sammysam · 12/12/2007 09:47

Right rang 3 yesterday-and the conclusion is that they are picking the phone up tomorrow and will diagnose the problem and then tell me if they can fix it and if so how much it will cost. if they can't or they don't think it is economically reasonable then they will sell me a phone for £50......or at least that is what i understood

Anyone have any experience of this? How much might it cost?

OP posts:
geordiemacminxpie · 12/12/2007 10:03

If it isnt working now, then they probably wont be able to fix it. Wait until the ring back and tell you its knackered, and that they can sell you one for £50, tell them with xmas you cant really afford £50, and that you have seen the same fone somewhere else cheaper - hopefully they will discount it for you.

sammysam · 13/12/2007 14:28

Thanks geordie!
