Are the sporty expensive swimsuits better the cheap supermarket ones for dd?

So far only had cheap ones and they do go thin but when you only pay £2.50 / £3.00 bin it and start again. Was thinking is it worth spending £10.00 plus on a good one of are they no better.
Any feedback greatful accepted.

I'd stick with the cheaper ones if I were you. I buy the expensive ones (Speedo and Adidas) for DD1 who needs an adult size and cheap (usually Tesco) for DD2 who is still child sized. Both seem to go thin alarmingly quickly!

I buy the sporty ones for dd because she swims twice a week. IME they last as long as it takes for her to outgrow them. Much depends on how you look after them - they don't respond well to washing machines and detergent. I just rinse them immediately after use in clean water and drip dry.

JJB sports have a sale on ATM. I bought 3 good makes this weekend for a fiver each.

thanks dd also swims twice a week and the moment 3x (swimming with school) biggest problem is a suit to fit her(tall ans skinny) But looking at the more expensive one they look like the fit is slimmer. So was thinking if it lasts it might be worth going for a more expensive suit.

Depends how good she is at rinsing it after, my DD used to swim twice a week with the school (pre year 2)and they didn't have time to rinse them out. So by the time I'd rinsed it had been marinating nicely in a sports bag for 4 hours.

We then started to buy the chap ones, although now she is older/bigger I buy the endrance speedo.

She 6 Y2 and they are rinsed in the shower after even after school swimming they are encouaged to have a quick shower. Have seen the endrance swimsuit on ebay at a good price.

My DD is tall and skinny too, and her latest suit is an Arena one. It's thicker, slim cut and is far better quailty than any of the cheap ones she's had. I'm a convert.

We have an M&S one - navy blue with a coloured trim - was a reasonable price, and fits her well - looks good on and has been used every week for 4 months now. I do rinse it when we get home and let it drip dry though.

I have to declare a vested interest here as I work for Speedo . Nylon Lycra suits that most swimwear is made from do deteriorate and lose their stretch over time when exposed to chlorine. There are other swimwear fabrics that are chlorine resistant eg: Speedo's Endurance+ fabric, which don't. They may eventually fade slightly, but won't lose their stretch or go thin. They are more expensive, but are designed for regular swimmers.

Dd has a £3 one from Sainsburys. It has been worn every week (more or less) since Easter. After swimming she will have a quick shower, and I will wash the swimsuit in with the normal laundry the day after swimming (until then it stays damp wrapped in its towel in the laundry basket)
It is still in good shape and not thin. Best £3 I have ever spent!!

lexcat · 30/11/2007 12:07

Thanks mandymac intresting info in the endurance the only speedo suit with the superior fabric.
Try sainburys one and it lasted about 2 months next I found the worst. not tried m&s

Agree with Mandymac. I do Speedo costumes too and would like to add that my one has been going strong for 3 and 1/2 years now and I swim at least twice a week.
