Which? report on disposable nappies - what's gone wrong???

I saw an extract from this in the Observer about a month ago, and seem to recall them finding that Asda's George nappies were the best value - most absorbent.

Last Wednesday we finally got round to picking up a pack of George "Little Angels" Action Fit, for ds's nights. Today I will change my 2nd set of bedsheets for the week after ds has again woken up in a puddle . Besides this I've already found two nappies (in a pack of 26) without their side tabs, making them useless.

Have I misremembered? Or is there some caveat that explains why the most absorbent nappy can't keep ds dry overnight like his Huggies used to do?

they are obviously crap then, whatever the Observer said.
I want to find an ethical disposable. We use cloth during the day for dd(3) but all the disposables leak at night.

IMO if a dospoable does not have a flexi adjuster (like pampers) then they can't keep them dry. especially with boys, their willies can go upwards and wee out of the nappy.

Go back to your Huggies missus.

Plus, return the Asda crap nappies and demand a refund!

re eco disposables - I keep a pack of Moltex to use when DS isn't in cloth. When he was about 6 months and has massive legs, they used to leak every time (the Moltex, not the cloth) and I almost gave up and bought some emergency Pampers. But since he has lost the thunder thighs they have never leaked and keep him really dry.

we had some problems with the huggies when he was doing giant liquid poos ejected with great force, but the reusables couldn't cope with them either

and don't worry, Red, the nappies will totally be going back to Asda. Quite possibly with a giant basket of dirty laundry

Which give a Best Buy to 'George Baby Comfort Dry', no Angels or Active Fit mentioned. Different nappy then.

How they test: "We estimate a baby needs changing at least once every 4 hours, so we put the robots through a 4-hour activity play session. This tests the nappy seals around the legs for leaks.

Our robots are then changed for bed ready for our next test: night long absorbency. They sleep for 12 hours lying on their bellies, on their sides and on their backs. This tests the nappy seals around the waist for leaks."

Aw, sleepy robots.

We tried the moltex but dd does 'big girl wee's' now that she is 3. So she'll go ages without peeing then do a monsoon which can't be absorbed as fast as it comes out so squirts out the legs, tops etc. Got very tired of wet trousers. Pampers are better (although still some leakage) but come with guilt attatched.
dd is pretty skinny but I make sure its all snug round the leg.
Tushies leaked in the same way too. The cloth ones don't leak but nursery don't want to use them and I wouldn't use them at night as she co-sleeps and I don't want a mattress smelling of wee!

thanks DontCallMeBaby - that's what I thought - but there were no George nappies in my Asda, only Little Angels (George in small print). Guess it's my fault for buying Action Fit instead of Comfort Dry.

yes needmorecoffee, since he was co-sleeping and our waterproof cover is still in wash - it's been wet here so everything takes 2 days to dry - my mattress now does smell of wee.

oh, and so does my bathroom full of wee-smelling laundry
