Diet Plate - has anyone used one?

I am thinking of buying my parents a Diet Plate each for Christmas (in case you think I am staggeringly insensitive, they have asked for help with losing weight!).

They do need to lose weight but the main issue is that they eat very, very unhealthily. Very little fruit/veg, too much junk food. Portions far too big in my stepdad's case and too small in my mum's case, which I think has affected her metabolism.

So I was wondering whether a Diet Plate might be useful. They aren't cheap though, for what is essentially just an ordinary decorated plate, so before I fork out £40 could anyone tell me whether they have found them to be useful/pointless?

Cheers

£40 is quite ridiculous
just buy some cheap white plates and porcelain pens and draw it on

Well I agree that £20 for a plate is a lot of money but I don't think an Ikea plate with my crappy drawing on it in marker pen is going to cut it as a Christmas present

Well I know which I would prefer
and you could spend the extra on something more indulgent (although maybe not belgian chocs)
