Whacky floor?

PrettyCandles · 27/11/2007 13:55

We're doing up our bathroom, hope to have it all white suite, simple tiled walls, tastefully built-in cupboards and concealed pipework etc. Ie all understated and simple elegance.

No, no, I don't do understated and simple elegance!

So I would like something whacky and exciting for the floor. Maybe lino/vinyl with a pattern of Smarties - not coloured dots, but photographic Smarties - or something equally different and crazy. Doesn't have to be vinyl either.

Any suggestions? Any ideas where to look?

Get lots of large tubes of smarties and some cement. You may need to varnish it later.

Macdog · 27/11/2007 14:01

Stones/Flowers designs
Not Smarties, but a bit different

beep · 27/11/2007 14:04

what about something like thiswww.harveymaria.co.uk/Gerberas

PrettyCandles · 27/11/2007 14:19

That would have been fine a few years ago, SoupDragon, but now that they only use natural food colourings the Smarties are just a bit too insipid for whacky.

Super! Thanks Macdog and beep.

I am sure that should be wacky

Not smarties, but how about:

this
or
this?

preggersagain · 27/11/2007 14:35

ahh but you can still get old style smarties www.sweets2yourdoor.co.uk/acatalog/BEANS.html

Mung · 27/11/2007 14:41

Its not patterned, but its quite wacky. You can get lots of colours. www.therubberflooringcompany.co.uk/

Hi prettycandles, I was going to suggest you get in touch with Amtico, but stealthsquiggle has beaten me to it. I once got a lovely sample from them with marbles on it. I'm not having much luck navigating their website, but there is a bit where you can find a local retailer, and maybe ask them for samples?

PrettyCandles · 29/11/2007 13:36

The Amtico site is not easy to use, but as far as I can see it's really fairly tasteful stuff. Not quite wacky enough (though the purple sparkley floor might do).

I've ordered some samples from Harvey Maria.

Anyone have any other ideas?

PrettyCandles, I will be back at work (architects) on Tuesday. Let me know if you want me to see if there are any exciting samples.

MrsBadger · 30/11/2007 23:09

I suspect insufficiently wacky
design your own

furcoatandnoknickers · 30/11/2007 23:17

Mrs Badger, sorry to hijack this, but I had in mind that you were a bit clever in the kitchen and ...might have Nigellas Domestic Godess lurking...if you do , or infact any one please could you type the receipe for American breakfast pancakes? Have promised girls we will have them in the morning...lent the farking thing to a friend who is not answering her phone....

furcoatandnoknickers · 30/11/2007 23:32

Panic over! Ive got the rec. now!

PrettyCandles · 01/12/2007 16:15

Mrs Badger, you are the url queen!

Absolutely love the digitile site, I might have to sell ds2 in order to afford a bespoke splashback.

We bought vinyl stickyback plastic with a smarties design to cover our dd's small wooden Ikea table. It is really wacky. I am sure it would work on your floor if you stuck it to something flat.

Smarties fablon

PrettyCandles · 01/12/2007 21:34

Oh yes please, Lio! Amtico have sent me their catalogue, but it's all soooo tasteful (apart from the E-number colours with sparkley bits - fairly groovy, but in a tasteful and unwacky way).

Hi, sorry have been useless, not found anything that I imagine will fit the bill. Altro can do literally any design, but it would be expensive and you'd have to convince a supplier/fitter that you are serious about doing a small area (they pour resin to a pre-planned design). Marmoluem (here) can be made in designs, and is natural. no idea about the money. WOuld feel nice underfoot. Doesn't have to be boring, see here

Polyflor here can be made into designs, rather than just patterns of tiles, if you want.

None of these is what I imagined, though. I had thought there might just be cool patterns of sweeties and things, rather than having to design it yourself.

NomDePlume · 07/12/2007 15:55

I know the sort of thing you mean, like the pebble ones that madwoman used on Property Ladder a couple of years back. I can't find anything online though.
