I can't wait, and the children can't either!!! Just wondered what it was like. I have never been before, not to see the Harrods one anyway.

Thanks. x

TheMaskedPoster · 25/11/2007 09:23

oo - we are going on Wednesday ... love it (have been for the last 3 years)

of course we go cos he is the 'Real' Santa

HappyFeet06 · 25/11/2007 09:31

Oooh hope you all enjoy it. What is it usually like themaskedposter. Do I need to take money for anything? What is included etc... Just so I know. Of course he is the real Santa.

We went for a few years, you have to get there as soon as the store opens, in fact, just before the doors open and then bomb it up to the children's floor to get in the queue. If you do that you will only have to wait for 1 to 1.5 hours - you do know about the queues don't you

While waiting, they have entertainers and give you biscuits, sweets and bottled water.

The elves take you through the magic wonderland, a story of working models from children's books, and then you get to meet the REAL SANTA. He gives the children a gift which is a book with Happy Christmas from Harrods printed in it and the whole thing is completely free (unless you buy a photo of your child with Santa)

It is worth it, the children love it and bizzarely, don't mind queueing

The weird thing is that bunches of adults (and adult tourists)go to see him, what's that about? Plus they make the queue much longer

Elfsmummy · 25/11/2007 09:43

I went to Harrods last weekend (without DD!) and there are notes on all the posters saying that all the weekend slots to see Santa are already booked - Weekday slots only are still available.

Just to let you know - didn't want any disapointed tiddlers!

HappyFeet06 · 25/11/2007 09:47

Oh we have booked. No more queues like before apparently. We have a time slot and Santa will see us within half an hour.

Cam, it sounds fab. Thanks for the info.

xx

Anybody else been this year yet?

malfoy · 25/11/2007 09:51

Hi, we are going in 2 weeks' time. I haven't received any tickets yet -just an email confirmation.

HF06, when did you get your tickets?

Cam · 25/11/2007 09:51

Oh, gosh, bookings to see Santa

I guess its just got too popular

Oh but we had great fun chatting to the other parents queuing

HappyFeet06 · 25/11/2007 09:55

I got my tickets about a week after booking. I accicentally booked two different days but only got one set of tickets, luckily they were the ones I really wanted. Don't know if the other set didn't get sent cos I could only have one set or if they mixed up. I would give them a ring malfoy as you will need the tickets to see him and better to get it sorted sooner rather than later.

What I was meant to say in my last post was; has anyone been this year and is it really only half an hour wait??

Ds interrupted me and I forgot what I was going to put!! I want to make sure I am ready for a longer than half an hour wait if necessary!!

My friends went 2 weeks ago (we're going Dec 16). They said it was nice, but seemed much plainer than they expected, anf thought it might be because it was still so early re xmas. Surely it'd be the same whenever though? On the plus side, no queues and very quiet! £10 for a photo.

HappyFeet06 · 25/11/2007 10:20

Might be as it was so early but then I would have thought it would be the same all the time. Might get a bit busier towards Xmas, we are going on the 12th of December. I knew about the £10 for photo, someone said it is framed for you??

Malfoy - we haven't got our tickets yet either! I am just taking the e-mail confirmation along with me in case I need it.

Yes Happyfeet06 it is a lovely experience going to see santa there ... it just doesn't seem like a hassel at all (and that was with the queueing - like Cam says). The books you get are (usually) good quality and nice stories and I don't mind shelling out for a few photos as they take a few so you can chose the best iyswim (and they look lush). We make a whole day of it at Harrods looking around all the different departments and generally having a Christmassy good time!

you do get a frame and I can't remember if it is for a few or only the large one. It is only cardboard-type, but nice enough. HTH

HappyFeet06 · 25/11/2007 11:41

Thanks themaskedposter. That has helped alot. I thought of making a day of it too but will see how the children are on the day!!

I took DD last weekend. No queue or waiting at all. Straight in, through a "castle corridor" thing which to be honest wasn't very Christmasy, but DD quite liked the model fairies sitting on the bookcase. The helpers were dressed more in a medevial costume rather than elves. Father Christmas was very convincing and nice, although there is more than one at a time as there are different doorways at the end of the corridor! Pressie was a sticker book which rather sadly wasn't wrapped. Cost £10 for the photo (optional).

I went today.

Waited 10 mins tops.
The teme is Sleeping Beauty. DD and DS got a Sleeping Beauty sticker book from Santa. Also a badge saying Father Christmas Harrods 2007. The photo is optional and the cheapest option is £10 as already said. But I thought it was rpetty good for free.

I booked tickets online ages ago. The tickets weren't posted out to me as the confirmation email said. When I phoned on Friday though they said to go to Floor 4 to pick them up from a separat desk. No queue there at all. All very stress free except the journey there (but won't go into that!)

TheMaskedPoster · 29/11/2007 16:29

Was great ... went yesterday and spent quite a bit of time just looking around Harrods at things that are so much more expensive than is humanly possible.

Santa himself was good and dd performed superbly . Waiting time was minimal and she loves the book.

A marketers dream, yes ... but then so am I .

PanicPants · 29/11/2007 16:42

TBH I was disapointed.

Plus points:
Were the bottled water/biscuits whilst waiting, and no queue due to the tickets.

Minus points:
Sleeping beauty/fairy tale theme - lovely but not christmassy imo
The way the rooms are completely set up to take photos -
No gift wrapped toys - just badge and sticker book

Felt it wasn't christmassy or magical at all
