What are my rights on taking something back to the shops without a reciept?

I brought someting a month ago.One of the blades fell out of it so I took it back to the shop with recipt and bag. Man replaced it with another on for me but the reciept was left in the bag when I left the shop. The same thing has happened again and I think I would reather have my money back now. What rights have I got?

If you paid with a card then you can show them your statement and that should suffice.

They don't have to give you a refund unless the item is still under warranty, in which case you can cite goods not fit for purpose.

Depending on where you bought it from, many big stores now have a 'no quibble' policy.

They do have to give you your money back if the item is 'not fit for purpose', which if one of the blades fell out of it after a month, it quite clearly isn't. Regardless of whether it is under warranty or not.

If the goods are faulty you do not have to have the receipt, although some sort of proof of purchase would be helpful, eg bank statement. Might they remember you in the shop? They will probably still have a record of the last exchange.

unfortunatly it is one of those shops that pop up at Christmas and go again in January which is why I am not prepared to take another replacement.

They do have to agree to give you a refund if the goods are either faulty or not fit for the purpose. (Sale of Goods act)
Most shops go way beyond this, and allow you to exchange or refund goods if you just don't like them or have changed your mind. However this is not a legal right and you would usually need the receipt and return the goods within the retailers time limit and in resaleable condition.
