Need a new pepper grinder - DS1 has just given the pepper "a good wash"...

Apparently the peppercorns were dirty. So he tipped a cup of water into it, then came and said, "Mummy, I've made a little mess".

So now it's dripping, the peppercorns are squashy and ungrindable and I'd like a lovely new one.

Anyone got a good one? Would like quite a coarse grinder, not dust.

Is pepper somehow anti-MN?! Have I sausage rolled my way into a froot shooting match with this request?!

lol i just get the ready to grind ones from tesco.

hunkermunker · 23/11/2007 18:56

Ready to grind? How does that work? [thick]

hunkermunker · 23/11/2007 18:56

I mean how does it work without a pepper grinder?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 23/11/2007 18:57

it comes in a pot like this then you just throw it away when you need a new one.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 23/11/2007 18:57

It has a pepper grinder on top, we buy them and they work very well.

hunkermunker · 23/11/2007 18:58

Aha! [enlightened]

Is it nice pepper though? I'm fussy particular

southeastastra · 23/11/2007 19:01

well i'm not particularly a connoisseur on black pepper. just know they're whole black peppercorns.

you can probably get tons of variations in tesco.

Walnutshell · 23/11/2007 19:02

IKEA sell very inexpensive grinders that sit upright when not in use and therefore don't spill the contents onto your table/shelf. Also has settings to vary size of grind.

Walnutshell · 23/11/2007 19:04

Thus

Not beautiful but practical and long-lasting.

southeastastra · 23/11/2007 19:06

lol at his blog

Walnutshell · 23/11/2007 19:30

Ooh, hadn't noticed that! How incredibly dull.

Poor chap. No wonder he has chosen to include the IKEA spice grinder - it's to liven up his ramblings.

southeastastra · 23/11/2007 19:50

and the comment:
I?d walked by those blue bags countless times, and, like you, actually wished I had a use for them since they?re so convenient and cheap. Next time we walk over to IKEA, I?m going to buy some.

yawn

Walnutshell · 23/11/2007 19:51

should I email him and tell him that IKEA now do mini versions of the Big Blue Bag - or will his head explode?

southeastastra · 23/11/2007 19:54

hmm i'm slightly excited that they now do smaller versions

BettySpaghetti · 23/11/2007 20:01

We're on the look out for a new pepper grinder too - I think IL's are buying one for us for Xmas.

Aparently the one to have is a Peugeot one but the prices are a bit (upto £100)

Walnutshell · 23/11/2007 20:06

Oh Betty, if "the one to have" is over £100 then clearly the "one to really have" is from IKEA!

Umm, southeast - slight confession: MIL brought a mini-Blue-Bag with her last time she visited and I coveted it so much she gave it to me and it is my pride and joy. There's just something about stuff in miniature... sigh.

hunkermunker · 24/11/2007 01:16

Thank you for more suggestions.

Oh, no, I'm going to have to go to Ikea again

I have two mini blue bags. I love them. I too would have coveted one, had I not got them almost immediately they introduced them. I use one for odd-socks-waiting-for-marriage and the other one for random small boy stuff in the car.

I use the big ones for laundry.

nappyaddict · 24/11/2007 02:35

i have an electric one.

Buda · 24/11/2007 06:33

Mini bags? They haven't made it to Budapest Ikea yet .

Friends have a battery operated grinder which I love using. Nearly bought one last Xmas but didn't in the end. Can't remember why. May put on my wish list for DH to get.

Buda · 24/11/2007 06:34

Oh and lol at "dirty peppercorns" - he'll make someone a great wife!

Buda · 24/11/2007 06:35

And another thought. If you do to Ikea for the grinder how many other things will you buy that you never new you needed?

Walnutshell · 24/11/2007 09:08

Yes Buda - beware that innocent stroll through IKEA's "marketplace" where you spend £50 on silver-coloured or basket-like crap that you never knew you needed (and don't).

Good idea for the mini-bag - random small boy stuff. I have one of those - a random small boy - so might do the same

Buda · 24/11/2007 16:59

And I do know that it should read "Knew" not "new".

MuffinMclay · 24/11/2007 19:29

Don't get the Cole and Mason one. Dh bought one a few weeks ago. Ds got hold of it, and within minutes of arrival it was irreparably broken.

Dh (who seems to know far more about pepper grinders than I consider normal) tells me that Peugeot ones are a fraction of their UK price in France. Don't know if you can buy them online from a French website - Galeries Lafayettes, perhaps.
