Anyone care to diagnose my dishwasher? Is this terminal?

Dishwasher (5 yrs old) is not washing things clean.

At the end of the wash cycle the d/w tablet is on the bottom of the d/w only partially dissolved.

I have tried running it on a very hot wash, using one of those d/w cleaner products, and scrubbing the spray arms; and it doesn't work.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

DH got the serial number (or whatever they call it) of the machine then found a website selling Bosch spares and ordered it!!

He talked to their customer service people first and they advised to get the whole dispenser which included sliding door - God I'm so techinical ! And he fitted it quite easily aparently!

LucyLasticBand · 16/11/2007 22:53

oh thanks, bosch here too, perhaps it is a design fault?

bl**dy thing, I used to sellotape it shut before it was mended!! Somehow when water got hot it melted glue on tape and door popped open, seemed to work for a while! Classy

I've not been able to find a spare part for the dispenser thing on the web

And looking at the thing, I don't know how I could remove it anyway.

I hope I don't have to throw it on landfill and get a new one just for the sake of the dispenser. I guess I'll have to get a man out to have a look at it.

OK Official Diagnosis - in case anyone's interested.

The runners that the top basket sit on are getting a bit stuck, and the ends of the runners are not slipping in flush to the door iyswim. This means that the top basket sticks out further than it should, which means it prevents the door to the soap dispenser was not able to open during the cycle.

So now I just need to remember to push the top basket firmly home and the runners, and it's all wonderful.

And fortunately it didn't take a call-out charge to diagnose this: My mum worked it out!

roisin - I had a similar problem with mine, and the solution was similar too, I'm posting it in case it's helpful to anyone!

The problem was that the top basket had two height options, and when it was placed in the lower position, it actually prevented the tablet dispenser door from opening properly - just a really crap design fault.

So the door would only partially open, water would get into it and eventually 'melt' the tablet sufficiently for it to fall out of the trap door, however by that time it was too late for it to do its work properly and it would end up as an undissolved soggy lump at the end of the cycle, surrounded by dirty dishes.

I did call an engineer out, and he said it was a very common problem generally - all he did was put the basket in the higher-up position and problem solved.

How crap is that, Zanussi??????!!!
