CAT S? What’s the deal?

I’m looking at selling my current family car, and buying something a bit more ‘me’ (a Mercedes!) however, I’m pretty fussy about cars and like to love what I’m driving. With that in mind. And with my budget; the only nicer Mercs coming up are CAT S and claim to be fully repaired professionally ect.

Why are they cheaper if repaired? What’s the implications of buying a cat s? Will insurance be higher? Will it kill me? Would I be mad to buy a cat s just to get the model I want?

My DP is a mechanic so his opinion is bias and won’t even contemplate looking at a cat s for me tolls eyes

But surely if they’re repaired professionally then there’s no harm? Just looking for anyone who’s got experience buying a cat s.. that isn’t my partners as he’s bias 😂

It’ll hike up your insurance & I think unless you know exactly what happened & whether it was reputably repaired it’s a bit Russian roulette as to what future problems you’ll encounter as a result of what happened to it.

Saying that I bought my first ever decent second hand car, deliberately not Cat S as I wanted a trouble free one, about 18 months ago and it’s a proper lemon - nothing but (expensive) problems & a still unresolved brake thing - so it’s always a bit of a lottery I guess! I wish I hadn’t sold my battered old reliable, if not eco friendly, car to help fund it..

(& with a mechanic in the family even less of an issue presumably!?)

That’s my thinking, if even if something was to go a bit tits up, DP is there to fix it, he could have a look around it and test drive it, plug in a diag to see if there any technical issues. I don’t see the problem, personally 😂

On the end he said I can do as I please as it’s my car and my money, however I don’t want to eat my hat when he’s dancing around me with a big ‘I told you so’ if things go wrong 😂

I wouldn't buy a cat s or c. You don't know how good the repairs are. There could be massive problems later on and your insurance will be higher. I wouldn't want the risk
