Why is there no such thing as the perfect diary?

Please someone tell me if you know of one. What I want in an ideal world, is an A4 diary which has a week to view on one side when you open it up, and a blank page for notes on the other side. That way, you know what you're doing that week, but you also have enough space to make copious notes that you might need to for work.

The organised mum one looks OK up to a point but it just has room for a to-do list, as opposed to a list of quite detailed instructions. And for £30, I'd want lots of space for notes. Please don't tell me to buy a filofax, I hate them.

ChippyMinton · 16/11/2007 13:39

MrsBadger · 16/11/2007 13:46

ChippyMinton · 16/11/2007 13:48

ah-ha, the moleskine 'large' is A5 so the extra large must big bigger (i know i know, i'm a geniius LOL)

MrsBadger · 16/11/2007 13:49

[[http://www.mojolondon.co.uk/stationery/moleskine/diary/moleskine_2008_12_month_weekly_notebook_xla rge.htm moelskine is 19x25cm - not quite A4 but bigger than A5

MrsBadger · 16/11/2007 13:49

19 x 25cm

LittleBella · 16/11/2007 16:57

ooh you are clever Mrs B. It looks like Mumsnet has come up trumps again. The extra large one looks like the nearest thing to what I'm looking for...

Have you seen these.

Not a4 but has week to view and space for notes and shopping lists which are perforated so you can detach and take with you. I have one and love it!

LittleBella · 16/11/2007 17:13

oh i like the idea of perforated shopping lists.

Why can't one uber-diary have all these wonderful features?

I bought an organised mum one for Sept 07 and am disappointed in it! not enough blank sheets and too much repetition of things. i hardly use it and am looking for better one for jan

LittleBella · 16/11/2007 17:42

I suspected it might not be as wonderful as it looks...

Can I suggest quo vadis diaries. I've had different sizes over the years and always found them superb. although they don't have a whole page at the side its about 1/3 of the space plus bit at top of each day to add a headline of somehting you musn't forget.

The web address is
quovadis-diaries.co.uk
Sorry can't do links

LittleBella · 16/11/2007 21:23

Mmmm, these look gorgeous

Am beginning to develop a diary fetish

They're very similar to Mrs Badger's moleskine ones (whatever moleskine is). But a tenner dearer. But do they work like filofaxes, with re-fills each time? (Much prettier than filofaxes)

yes you only have to buy a new diary infil each year and can keep the same address book and cover although I am such a saddo that I enjoy filling in a pristine address book.

There's a perforated tear off bit on each page, maps at the back showing the world, different time zones/ continents plus BR map London underground - perfect for when your bored on public transport.

The diary bit also includes for each day or week to do/to phone/to fax/e-mail bit.

Years ago at work someone got one cos we always had loads of project meetings and it was perfect - by the end of the year all our team had one and the following year senior management succumbed as well.
I'm starting to rave so I'll stop.

I think the problem with diaries, is that they are either very work-oriented or very home oriented.

I work part time and have lots and lots of meetings. Outside of work I'm a school governor and the kids have lots of clubs, playdates etc. I want a diary that functions for both. There doesn't seem to be one really. I'd like a combination of one of these moleskin/ quo vadis ones and the organised mum ones. Gap in the market?
