Ow I've just seen the prices for 18" wheels, does anyone know where is the cheapest place to get a new bike from ,on the internet or otherwise? Also 18" is right isn't it as he's just grown out of his 14" one so 16" wouldn't last much longer, he's 6 BTW. [slightly dim emoticon]

halfords are good for advice

clutteredup · 15/11/2007 21:59

mm but pricey, i was hoping to spend a bit less if possible, would consider 2nd hand but dd has just got a new bike for her birthday and both are feeling 'underloved' compared with eachother at the moment.

would look at ebay in your area[search withint 10miles] or car boots. However I would go and look in halfords or elsewhere to make sure oyu are buying right size.

yes but go to halfords for the advice then say you'll think about it and get a cheaper one

The best place to get a bike is from sterling house. I found out about them from mumsnet and they always have great deals. Check out their specials and clearance stuff. They take the I-changed-my-mind returns from a few different stores, so the bikes are brand new and preassembled. I have had 3 bikes from them without any problems at all. They have new different deals all the time, so if you have time, keep checking back for the right deal for you.

SofiaAmes · 15/11/2007 22:29

Oh and, at this age, they will outgrow the bike or it will rust away from being left outside. Don't bother with name brand.

SlightlyMadScreachingSirens · 15/11/2007 22:31

Go to an independant bike shop. Haggle on the price.

They will build it for you. Much better that halfords, toys 'r' us etc.

We got a bargain (well DP did know the sales assistant) and very good proper believable advice.

OOh thank you SofisAmes, that looks just like the sort of thing I was looking for. I like the idea of pre assembled DH spent ages putting DDs together for it to fall apart half way round the park !!!! Will go to Halfords tomorrow and then but on this site.

OK I've found an 18inch boys bike on amazon for £49.99 with free delivery, can anyone better that before I order it?
