For a boy so not too pink. I want it to be not too big, but big enough so all the pieces (and more) fit in once closed. Also want it to open and close and once closed it is sealed IYKWIM, no open bits. A carry handle would also be good but not essential.
Wooden, plastic, whatever.
TIA

How about the Playmobil carry along one or modern house. dd has the Grand Mansion but that is rather large !

horsemadgal · 17/11/2007 18:05

Thanks LIZS, I really like the carry along one. Will look into that one.

My little one plays with his sister's one. We got it from ToysRus for £50 instead of £100

LIZS · 18/11/2007 11:08

possibly too girly for a ds but Mailorderexpress has the Playmobil Grand Mansion for £49.99

horsemadgal · 18/11/2007 11:53

ToysRUs one out of stock. I see Woolworths have a similar one for £40, but not just as nice.

Grand Mansion looks fab, but no furniture!

School is having a bring and buy sale on Friday, so reckon I will wait until then and see if I am lucky.

Thanks all.

most definitely playmobil, the take along house is excellent

horsemadgal · 18/11/2007 17:45

I do like the take along one and like that all the furniture comes too. Thanks.

Don't get the ELC plain wood one - bought one second hand very expensively off ebay with all the perfect condition furniture and dolls - probably because ex owners never played with it either. DD has no interest in it at all - Playmobil sounds much better. It's the real life in miniture that inspires, who on earth has a soft brown wooden washing machine?

jezzemx · 18/11/2007 23:34

ToysRus had a wooden one and it was half price! £50 instead of £100 My friend ordered one and highly recommends it.

At the moment it is out of stock but just keep checking their website.

jezzemx · 18/11/2007 23:34

oops I don't think her can carry it!!!

jamila169 · 19/11/2007 00:04

I've just bought DD the playmobil carry along house and it looks quite good, with a selection of furniture and the figures -may have to get the superglue out for the dinky pieces though

mamazon · 19/11/2007 00:15

Argos have one for £45.
its wooden and very traditional and comes with all the furniture and a family too.

i dont think its painted so wouldnt be too girly either, although may be mistaken

jabberwocky · 19/11/2007 00:50

I got one for DS1 last year. It's Melissa and Doug, it closes and has a handle. He loves it and now ds2 plays with it as well.

horsemadgal · 20/11/2007 23:44

Thanks all. Will investigate further at the weekend.
I love that Melissa and Doug one. Where could I get that here.

I would go for Playmobil too. My ds (nearly 7) is mad about it. The modern house is great, though cannot be sealed, the take-along -house can be sealed, but is smaller. All the accessories are great, and work well together, and will probably last longer in terms of play value than a wooden dolls' house (although these look lovely, I think Plyamobil offers more exciting possibilities for playing).

overthehill · 21/11/2007 00:10

I completely disagree about plain wooden ones and I think it's down to the child: my dd had one when she was 2 & loved it to bits, playing with it for years. So there!

ScarletA · 21/11/2007 17:36

Hmmm, always suspected it was my dd's fault for not playing with it. Nothing to do with me of course, buying her a doll's house that I would have loved as a child but never had....

beowulf · 21/11/2007 17:43

plan city stuff is fab - really good unisex stuff and they do a selection of dolls' houses.

MrsPuddleduck · 21/11/2007 17:44

Home Bargain do a plain wooden dolls house for about £20 (or they do in Stafford anyway).

This is the one which I bought for my boys as it is not girly and cheap enough that if they lose interest I wont have spent too much money.
