Isofix or not?

I need to get a Group 1 car seat and am confused as to the advantages and disadvantages of Isofix.

Is it easier or harder to fit and move between cars than a seat that you fix with a seatbelt?

I've heard it's safer, but none of the favourites in the Mumsnet product reviews seem to be Isofix.

Thanks for all help.

I have an Isofix seat, and it does fit easily (with a little practice!), and I suppose once it's clicked into place it's secure, no worries about seat belt tension or whatever.

It can also be fixed with a seat belt, so there is that option if I had to put it in a car without isofix, in fact, I never have. I've never grappled with seat belt threading, so in my mind it's very complicated .

Isofix is much safer.

I find it easy to move our Isofix seat about, but obviously if another car doesn't have Isofix you need to use the seatbelt. Depending on the seat and the car you may also need a top tether kit.

Which? rated isofix seats highly in their last tests.

If you have the isofox points in your car then Isofox is much safer.
The seat is basically anchored into the car with no danger of it being installed incorrectly.

Definitely isofix if you have the points in your car.

I can recommend the Britax Duo Plus.

Thanks all! Will get the Maxi Cosi Isofix one I think.

Hi - jsut to say I think the only disadvantage is that it's difficult to use in another car - i'd check this before you buy...

We bought two bases and 1 maxi cosi isofix car seats from ebay (far cheaper) and it was the best money we spent for ds2's arrival. Absolute doddle once the bases were fixed (they're very heavy to move between cars) which is great with a sqealing infant in winter! Couldn't recommend highly enough & I felt more relaxed with isofix knowing I couldn't stuff up the fitting of the car seat (red=not right, green=go!)

I have been able to use our Isofix in other cars and it has been much easier than refitting the MaxiCosi Priori XP we had before (had to change car seats as got new car and the MaxiCosi didn't fit any more.
They all have the Isofix points though obviously (Audi, Jeep, Toyota, Honda and Seat).

Oops, think I was talking about Group 0 there, but we do have a britax isofix group 1 and it's fine although I think the maxi cosi's are better quality.
