can i ask why are you thinking of getting one, if you dont mind asking?

scienceteacher · 13/11/2007 17:40

I bought one, and they are very nice once you have it on and the toddler is sitting on it. It's a bit annoying to put on (although easy enough), and it looks totally stupid without the child.

I don't think I used mine more than a few times.

very good if you have a big baby who can't walk. I used mine today to pop into a shop with DS3 and later I carried him in his car seat about the same distance and the hippy chick is infinitely more comfy.

My friend bought one of these from John Lewis and the clip on it broke after 1 use, but it was exchanged and new one has been fine so far!!. She thinks it's great and wouldn't be without it.

i found mine fantastic.... when my then very heavy 12 - 15 month old charge weighed over 12 kg and hadnt yet learnt to walk....

i only used it regularly for a few months but there were many days during thos months when i couldnt actually have managed without it!

Thanks for the commets guys... I guess I'll be buying one then

Biglips- because my youngest can walk almost to school and back, but if he doesn't want to walk half way home- then he is heavy

ahh right thats cool!....as what i dont agree is when mums wear them all the time and the kids are superglued to them all the time but everyone got different opinions than me.

They are good for people who got a sore back as it totally supports their backs.

biglips · 14/11/2007 07:34

but theres no way i would get one for my 3.1 yrs old DD as she can walk to her preschool - sometimes she is too tired and ill put her in the pram or carry....but she is 41lbs!!

lailasmum · 14/11/2007 07:37

I had one briefly for my 3 year old, she was about 30lb. I didn't like it. The main reason being it was hard to get the waist size tight enough and the fabric on the inside is quite rough and I found it irritated me even through a couple of layers of clothing. I went back to a wrap sling tied in a hip carry and sold the hip seat. There are other hip carriers around that give you hands free carrying. Where as the hip seat doesn't.

Sheherazadethegoat · 14/11/2007 08:23

dh bought me one and i used it once and took it straight back to the shop. I have scoliosis and tbh it hurt more than just carrying dd but that might just be an oddity of my back condition. also i found it plain embarrassing. it is enormous and looks odd. i think the slings are much better.

fantastic, I wouldn't have been without mine.

As soon as dd had head control, it was much easier than using a sling.

FrostyGlassSlipper · 14/11/2007 08:45

I have one for my 11 month old but I've been using it since she was about 6 months as I have neck problems as a result of carrying her. It is great. Takes the strain off your back in a way that a sling wouldnt have helped me.

lailasmum · 14/11/2007 09:09

There is also this thing Mei Hip which is hands free. and I have seen another hip carrier around.
