Relaxing gift idea for new mum

My friends just had a baby and instead of buying something for the baby (which everyone will do) I thought I would get her a pampering gift.

I don't want anything thats too much of a faff like a pedicure kit (lets face it she is not going to have time for that for months!) but was thinking some kind of essential oil relaxing bath stuff or candles?

Kind find anything much on the net.

Any ideas?

As a new mum (ds is 3 months now) I can tell you the best thing you could give me was some time off! Offer to babysit while she gets some sleep, or goes out with her other half, or do her washing up for her, or take round some meals for the freezer. That and chocolate. Chocolate never goes amiss.

Thanks for the replies.

at £50 for a candle at Molton Brown!

The neals yard stuff looks nice so might go for that.

James - great idea re babysitting. I am still waiting for someone to do this for me (dd 10 months!)

It's not exactly a pampering gift, but I got sent this when I had DD, and it was the best present ever.

jumpyjan · 12/11/2007 15:27

yum - how long do they last for Barry Scott? Thats a lot of cakes to get through!

why not book an at-home beauty hterapist? someone to come round and give her a pedicure/facial/whatever

i was thinking maybe someone coming to the house would be easier than her going out...? sometimes it is for very new mums (as you prob know)

you could even have a girlie night and get something done yourself! this may include lots of giggling and a glass of wine...

No bath products or candles. At least IME I either never had the time, or my skin was too sensitive (particularly when breastfeeding). The best pampering gifts have always been when frineds brought me food, or someone took the baby for me for a while, etc. As JamesBanana suggested!

A home fisit from a masseur would have been most welcome, especially if accompanied by someone who would attend to the baby (the friend, any friend, my mum, etc).

The best new baby gift we ever received was a visit from a couple of friends who cooked a super meal, brought it over, heated it up, served it, ate with us, and then did the washing-up. Fantastic.
