Which Pampered Chef products are worth the money?

I currently have the chopper (a must for every household with small children!), and the cheese knife (has halved the amount of cheese I get through per week).

Have bought a few other things I regret though. Like the strawberry corer thing.

What's worth getting for next time?

I love my glass measuring jug with a lid. No idea why actually - think perhaps I need to get out more .

I bought the cheese grater, the handheld drum with handle that you turn and it just takes up drawer space - it's not as efficient as a straightforward box grater and it's a bugger to wash.

I also bought 3 knives in their own cases, which are supposed to sharpen themselves each time you take them out of the case, and I think they're rubbish.

seeker · 12/11/2007 08:53

Absolutely nothing. It's more expensive and not as good as Lakeland, and you end up buying stuff because your friend's organizing the party. Like my 18 quid fish slice for example!
I hate being emotionally blackmailed, however civilizedly, into buying stuff.

wannaBe · 12/11/2007 08:56

I have cupboards full of it .

I have loads of stoneware which I think is fab, if perhaps a bit of a bitch to clean sometimes, I also like the garlic press which crushes garlic without having to peal it first.

becauseimworthit the sharpening knives have a little button on the case which you need to press when pulling the knife out if you want to sharpen it - they don't sharpen automatically every time you take them out of the case. only sharpen after every 4/5 uses though otherwise you'll over sharpen them.

those stone roasting dishes....

you must never everput any washing up liq or oterh detergent on them.... just hot water and the scraper

I think its fair to say they make the best roast potatoes ever and the more it is used the yummier they become!

wannaBe · 12/11/2007 08:58

and the muffin pan makes the best yorkshire puddings.

wannaBe · 12/11/2007 08:58

also the easy accent decorator is great for icing/meringues etc as it's much easier than faffing about with icing bags etc.

Scootergrrrl · 12/11/2007 09:04

I like the apple slicer thingy which you press over an apple and it, well, slices it and take the core out. Makes getting fruit down the DCs much easier!

wannaBe · 12/11/2007 09:05

ah yes, I have that too. and friend slices the apple almost all the way through then pulls it out and pushes the wedges back together and wraps in clingfilm for lunchboxes.

tasjaSAmuminUK · 12/11/2007 09:10

The scraper! love mine, it's the only thing (apart from the kettle) that I use everyday.

laura032004 · 12/11/2007 09:25

I have a round stone for pizzas etc. I am liking it more and more as time goes on. Must remember to remind my mum & dad not to wash it at Christmas though! (they take it upon themselves to scrub all sorts of things, like the massive lasagne dish I keepp at the bottom of my oven to catch spills)

Are other makes of stonewear as good though? A friend has some from John Lewis I think. I wonder what the price comparison is?

tasjaSAmuminUK - which one? The one with a handle, or the little square?

Mini muffin tin plus 'tool' (wha-hey)

Makes very posh mini-quiche for entertaining

fedupwasherwoman · 12/11/2007 09:31

They do this all in one "barbie mate" (put on your Aussie accent for that one) which is very good and makes a good practical gift for the meat burner (male) in your life. It is however intended for use on those gas barbies now very popular amongst my dh and his buddies.

Boogalooblue · 12/11/2007 09:34

The bamboo 'wooden' spoons, they can go in the microwave and have lasted brilliantly, and they were relatively cheap

I hate the chopper thing, find it quicker to do it the normal way - what a waste of money that was.

I do agree with Seeker though that it is basically emotional blackmail, I went to a party and ended up ordering far more than I needed/wanted - my own weak will to blame I suppose

burstingbug · 12/11/2007 09:40

Yep, the apple slicer & corer is great, I have several pieces of stoneware, the bar pan is excellent for roasting potatoes. The spritzer is good for oils and dressings.
I have several friends who have binned all their tins and utensils in favour of the pampered chef range.

laura032004 · 12/11/2007 09:40

Boogalooblue - I'd take the chopper off your hands if you don't like it! I'd love to have one at my mums for spare.

Boogalooblue · 12/11/2007 09:45

I use the button on the knives and they still aren't sharp enough!

I also have the mini muffin tray with implement - never used despite the Pampered Chef woman demonstrating lovely, lovely canape things for us!

stickieswoman · 12/11/2007 23:50

i held a party and invited about 20 people and only 7 showed up however it still went well and i got quite a lot of points to choose free gifts with and money off etc. everyone had a good time and it was nice to get together without the kids!!
regarding the products; i love the spoon rest i have it by my aga and it saves getting mess on the worktop all the time. also bamboo spoons and tongs are fab and haven't cracked in dishwasher. batter bowls with lids are great - especially for y pudding batter so you can make in advance and cover.
have got stoneware deep square dish which is v good but looks dirty whcih i don't like.
got mini muffin tray and dibber which was very excited about but have yet to use it....i'll keep you posetd!!

Jenkeywoo · 12/11/2007 23:54

I got a totally random item because it was cheap and I felt guilted into buying something - it was a weird kind of press to make a sandwich into a kind of round mini pasty thing - bloody awful, just so not worth it. I agree the stoneware is lovely but the prices are just madness for normal people on a normal budget.
